대학 글쓰기 분야의 역사가 길지 않은 탓에, 이 영역의 존재 가치를 증명하면서 학문적 정체성을 수립하는 것은 지금도 매우 중요한 연구 과제에 해당한다. 물론 그간 과정 중심의 문제 해결 전략이 글쓰기의 정체성을 수립하는 데 기여한 바는 크다. 또한 인지와 사회를 통합하고자 하는 최근 작문 이론의 경향 역시 의미 있는 연구 결과에 속한다. 하지만 이러한 방식은 여전히 한계가 있기 때문에 본고에서는 문화 연구와 담론연구의 통영역적, 통학문적 사유 방식을 비판적으로 흡수할 것을 주장하였다. 탈근대라는 변화된 사회 환경에 능동적으로 대처해야 하는 상황은 대학의 글쓰기 분야 역시 피해가기 어렵기 때문이다. 하지만 현재 글쓰기 수업에서 문화 연구는 다양한 사회문화적 현상을 주제화하는 데에만 이용되고 있다. 이처럼 그 의미와 역할이 제한되었을 때 일상생활의 총체적 비판으로서의 문화 연구의 가치는 축소되거나 소거될 것이다. 그리고 문화 연구의 가치를 살릴 수 있는 비판적 담론 분석을 글쓰기 방법론의 정립을 위해 수용할 필요가 있다. 이러한 측면에서 본고에서는 우리시대에 알맞은 글쓰기 주제 선정과 방법론 채택을 위해 맥코미스키 및 페이즐리, 셀저의 방법을 응용할 것을 주장하였다.

As we know, the history of university writing is not so long, then to persue its` identity is still our matter of consequence. That`s why for Korean researchers of university writing, to establish the identity of university writing is very important problem. Needless to say, process theory for writing contributed greatly to the development of Korean university writing. But social environment has changed and we are now in a different world. We call it post-modern world. We should cope with that matters in a aggressive and for ward-looking attitude. For this, I insisted that we should absorb critically the interdisciplinary thinking process of cultural study and critical discursive analysis. I expect cultural study and critical discursive analysis help to looking for the writing methodology which is suitable for the changed social environment. From this perspective, in this paper I asserted we can apply McComiskey and Faigley & Selzer`s effective university writing methodologies.
