본고는 작문 교과서에 나타난 ‘서사’의 양상을 통해 서사의 본원적 원리가 무엇인지 탐구하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 7차 작문 교과서 13종에 나타난 ‘서사’의 양상을 이론 편과 실제편으로 나누어 조사 해보았다. 이 과정에서 나타난 바, 서사’를 설명하는 대부분의 예시를 ‘소설’로 제시하고 있어서 ‘서사’의 의미구성 과정을 곡해할 가능성이 있었다. 이는 실제편에서 서사가 ‘정서표현을 위한 글쓰기’ 영역에 집중되어 있는 양상에서도 나타나는 바 서사를 문학적인 것, 혹은 정서표현에 유리한 글에 적합한 것으로 오해할 여지가 있었다. ‘서사’가 정서표현에 유리할 뿐만 아니라 실은 신문기사나 실험보고서 등과 같은 비교적 객관적인 글쓰기에서도 활용될 수 있다는 가능성이 외면되고 있었던 것이다. 또한, 서사가 정보전달을 위한 글쓰기에서 사용되기도 했지만, 그럴 경우 ‘서사’를 시간의 흐름대로 정보를 배열하는 내용전개의 원리로 이해할 가능성이 농후했다. 즉 ‘서사’의 시간성이 중심사건을 의미화하는 과정에서 뒤따르는 인과적 질서라는 사실이 외면되고 있었다. 본고에서 이런 과정을 분석하면서, ‘서사’가 주관적이든 객관적이든 개별 경험을 공유하기에 적합한 양식이라는 점, 그리고 갈등을 포함한 중심사건의 설정을 통해 인과적 의미구조를 가지는 진술방식이라는 점을 드러내고자 했다.

This study has its purpose of considering the original meaning of narration through the aspects of ``narration`` shown in textbooks. To attain this goal, this paper examines the aspects of ‘narration`` shown in 13 7th textbooks as dividing them into theory and practice and studies each aspect shown in them. They can be largely divided into two. First of all, they suggest most examples explaining ``narration`` with ``novels``, so it was possible to distort the process of semantic composition of ``narration``. This is also shown in practice with the aspect that narration is focused on the area of ``writing for emotional expression``; thus, they may misunderstand that narration is suitable for what is literary, or writing good for emotional expression. Moreover, it is ignored that ``narration`` is good for emotional expression, and in fact, it can also be used in relatively objective writing such as newspaper articles or experimental reports. In addition, narration was used in writing to transmit information, and in such case, there was great possibility that they could understand ``narration`` as a principle of developing contents which arranges information by the time flow. The meaning that the meaning of narration is gained ``within time`` was accepted as the matter of formal composition, but this article examines that process and verifies the temporality of narration is not the matter of formality but what is originated from criteria to classify information. Also, it discovers that narration can be utilized objectively as well as subjectively in various problem-solving circumstances.
