고등학교 작문 과목 교육과정의 개정 방향은 다음과 같은 몇 가지로 정리해 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 제7차 고등학교 작문 교육과정의 틀을 유지하는 가운데, 교육과정 내용의 수정 및 보완을 지향한다는 점이다. 새 교육과정에서도 국민 공통 기본 교육과정과 심화·선택 교육과정을 유지하고 있으므로 전체적인 체제는 연속적인 성격을 지닌다. 둘째, 작문 과목교육 과정의 개정은 국민 공통 기본 교육과정에 포함된 쓰기 영역을 심화하는 방향을 지향한다는 점이다. 따라서 고등학교 작문 교육과정은 국민 공통 기본 교육과정에서 제시하고 있는 지식, 기능, 맥락이라는 내용체계를 동일하게 유지하고 있다. 셋째, 작문 교육과정에서 세부 내용을 포함함으로써 교육과정 적용의 실제성을 지향한다는 점이다. 이에 따라, 이전 교육과정에서는 ‘3. 내용’ 항에서만 하위 항목 진술을 두었으나, 새작문 과목 교육과정에서는 내용 항뿐만 아니라, ‘4. 방법’ 항과 ‘5. 평가’ 항에서도 하위 항목을 설정하였다. 넷째, 작문의 정의적 요인을 교육과정 내용에서 다루지 않는 방향을 지향한다는 점이다. 작문 교육과정의 목표 항에서는 정의적 요인과 관련된 목표를 설정하고 있으나 교육과정 내용에서는 이 영역의 내용을 포함하지 않았다.

Forth, new writing curriculum direct to exclude affective factor. But ``curriculum goals`` part has a goal of affective factor.
