이 논문에서는 2007년 개정 국어과 교육과정에서 <읽기>와 <쓰기>영역의 교육 내용을 분석하여 읽기와 쓰기 통합 지도의 가능성을 타진해 보았다. 국어과 교육과정에서 학년별로 제시한 ‘글의 수준과 범위’, ‘성취기준’, ‘내용 요소의 예’를 중심으로 읽기 쓰기의 교육내용 관련성을 분석해 보았다. 동일 학년에서 부분적으로 비슷하거나 유사한 유형의 텍스트를 제시하고 있는 경우도 있으나, 대부분 <읽기>와 <쓰기> 영역에서 제시하고 있는 ‘글의 수준과 범위’에서 관련성이 부족했다. 또한 두 영역의 성취 기준과 내용 요소에서 공통된 학습 요소를 추출할 수 있는 것은 드물었다. 이 점에서 볼 때 개정 국어과 교육과정은 텍스트의 선정과 분류, 성취 기준의 설정에서 영역 통합 지도를 고려하여 개발되었다고 보기는 어렵다. 읽기와 쓰기의 효율적인 통합 지도를 위해서는 교육과정 개발 단계에서부터 통합 지도를 고려해야 한다. 수업에서 학생들에게 실질적으로 영향을 미치는 것은 국어 교과서이다. 개정 국어과 교육과정에 의거한 국어 교과서는 7차 교육과정기의 교과서 체제와 같이 읽기와 쓰기 영역이 분리되어 개발되고 있기 때문에, 교과서 내에서 읽기와 쓰기 영역의 통합적 지도를 효율적으로 하기는 힘들 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 국어 교육에서 읽고 쓰는 활동의 연계가 아니라 교육 목표와 내용에서 심층적 통합을 위해서는 교육과정과 교과서 개발 단계에서부터 통합 지도를 고려하여야 한다.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the revised Korean language arts curriculum in 2007 and to examine a possibility of the integral instruction of reading and writing. I explore the connection between reading and writing based on ``the level and the range of texts``, ‘achievement standards``, and ``examples of content constituents`` in the revised Korean language arts curriculum. The revised Korean language arts curriculum in 2007 lacks the connection between reading and writing in the level and range of texts. It is difficult to extract common in- structional elements from achievement standards and examples of content constituents in the reading area and the writing area. Moreover it is difficult to teach reading and writing integrally with textbooks because textbooks for reading and writing based on the revised curriculum are being developed separately. Therefore the integral instruction has to be considered in the development phases of the curriculum and textbook in order to perform efficiently integral instruction of reading and writing.
