이 논문은 성균관대학교 율전 캠퍼스(자연과학 캠퍼스)에서 이공계 대학생을 위한 전공 연계적 글쓰기 과목인 <자연과학 및 공학 글쓰기>(가칭)를 개발하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 이 논문에서는 현대 자연과학 및 공학 분야의 주요한 특성, 즉 수리적·통계적 도표를 활용하는 표현상의 특성, 가설-연역적으로 문제를 해결하는 방법론적 특성, 팀별 협동 작업중심으로 이루어지는 실천상의 특성 등을 반영하여 ‘자연과학 및 공학글쓰기 능력 향상 프로그램’을 기획하고 있다. 이 논문에서 제안한 자연과학 및 공학 글쓰기 능력 향상 프로그램은 ‘분석 → 평가 → 작성’이라는 일련의 단계들에서 읽기와 쓰기를 병행하면서 텍스트의 양과 질을 점진적으로 강화하는 과정으로 구성된다. 특히 이 프로그램의 1단계에서는 자연과학 및 공학 분야의 수리적·통계적 도표를 분석적으로 이해하고 작성하기 위한 해설적 글쓰기를 실습한다. 그리고 2단계에서는 자연과학 및 공학 분야의 가설 혹은 모델의 형성 및 평가 기준을 적용하여 텍스트의 가설 혹은 모델이 지닌 한계와 문제점을 평가하는 논증적 글쓰기를 실습한다. 끝으로 3단계에서는 현대 자연과학 및 공학 연구의 환경을 모방한 팀별 활동을 통해 연구 제안, 연구 논문, 연구 소개에 관한 다양한 글쓰기를 실습한다. 비록 해결되지 않은 몇 가지 행정적·제도적 문제들이 남아 있지만, 이상의 ‘자연과학 및 공학 글쓰기 능력 향상 프로그램’에 기초한 <자연과학 및 공학 글쓰기> 과목은 이공계 대학생들이 자신의 전공 분야에서 실제로 활용 가능한 글쓰기 능력을 향상시키고 이를 통해 자신의 연구 활동이 지닌 사회적·윤리적 의의까지 고려할 수 있게 한다는 점에서 대학 교양기초 교육 분야에서 이공계 글쓰기 교육을 개선하기 위한 한 가지 구체적인 사례가 될 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to establish a new writing course, which is closely related with science and engineering education, in Natural Sciences Campus in Sungkyunkwan University. In order to accomplish it, this study proposes a new writing program for the students who major in science and engineering, which is called as ``science & engineering writing competence program``. Especially this writing program considers 3 major characteristics in contemporary science and engineering researches- mathematical·statistical charts or diagrams, hypothesis-deductive method, team-based cooperative work. ``Science & engineering writing competence program`` consists of three major steps, which steps are gradual in reading and writing level. The first step of this writing program is to analyze mathematical·statistical charts or diagrams, and to practice expository writings. The second step of this writing program is to estimate the validity of hypotheses and models, and to practice argumentative writings. The third step of this writing program is to simulate practical writings in the field of the science and engineering, and to practice ethical writings. Although some administrative and institutional problems are unsolved, the new writing course on ``science & engineering writing competence program``, which is called as , will offer the advancement of writing skills and the ethical reflection on the scientific and engineering achievement to the students who major in science and engineering. So in Natural Sciences Campus in Sungkyunkwan University will be a successful case of writing course curriculum in the relation with the science and engineering education.
