대학에서의 글쓰기(writing) 교과목은 다른 교과목에 비해 학생에게 학습에 대한 동기를 부여하기가 특히 어렵다. 그리고 이러한 동기부여의 어려움은 궁극적인 학습 효과에까지 부정적인 영향을 미치게 된다. 본 논문은 글쓰기를 배우는 학생들에게 자발적인 학습 동기를 불러일으킴으로써 학습 효과를 최대화하기 위해 작성되었다. 이를 위해 ‘진단평가(diagnosis evaluation)’ 및 ‘진단용 텍스트와 그 글쓰기 과정을 교수-학습(teaching-learning) 단계에 활용하는 방안’을 제안하였다. 먼저, 교수는 본격적인 교수-학습 과정 전에 학생에게 글쓰기 능력을 진단하기 위한 글을 쓰도록 한다. 이때 진단용 텍스트에 대한 평가는 그 텍스트의 완성도를 기준으로 삼을 것이 아니라, 글쓰기의 과정과 전략에 대한 필자의 인지적 능력을 기준으로 삼아야 한다. 이러한 진단평가 과정을 통해 학생은 자신의 글쓰기 능력을 객관적으로 파악할 수 있다. 그러고 나서 교수는 학생의 글쓰기 능력과 수준에 맞는 학습 방법과 그 효과에 대해 충분한 정보를 제공함으로써 학생에게 학습에 대한 동기를 부여해 주어야 한다. 다음, 진단용 텍스트와 그 글쓰기 과정은 본격적인 교수-학습 단계에 활용됨으로써 교육효과를 높일 수 있다. 왜냐하면, 글쓰기의 인지적 과정과 전략에 대한 학습에서 필자는 자기진단을 위해 글을 썼던 과정을 비판적으로 되돌아보고 그 결과물을 직접 수정해 볼 수 있기 때문이다. 이와 같이 진단평가를 활용한 글쓰기 교육은 학생에게 학습에 대한 동기를 부여하고, 학습의 효과를 최대화하는 데 매우 효과적이다.

Compared with other subjects, writing is especially difficult to motivate students for learning. This can have a negative effect on the learning effect. This thesis was written to maximize learning effect by motivating students who learn writing. To this end, ``the scheme that applies "diagnosis evaluation process" and "diagnostic text"`` to teaching-learning process was proposed. First, teacher leads students to write a composition to diagnose student`s writing ability before serious teaching - learning process. The evaluation of diagnostic text should take cognitive ability of writers for writing process and strategy as criteria instead of completeness of text. Through this diagnostic evaluation process, students can find their own writing abilities objectively and then teacher should motivate students for study by providing students with learning methods that are suitable for writing ability of each student and sufficient information on writing that is customized to each student. Diagnostic text and the process can enhance educational effect by being applied to serious teaching - learning process for writers can review the process of writing critically and correct the result of writing firsthand. As mentioned above, writing education that utilizes diagnostic evaluation is very effective in motivating students for study and maximizing learning effect.
