이 연구는 주요 일간지에서 사용되는 ‘대선’ 관련어의 변화 양상을 통해 대선이라는 사회적 관심사와 주요 이슈들이 사회 문화적으로 어떤 추이를 보이는지 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 분석 대상 텍스트로 2000년대에 치러진 16대~18대 대선에 해당하는 기사들을 대선일 직전 3개월치만 한정하여 <물결21> 코퍼스에서 추출한다. 역대 ‘대선’의 추이를 다양하게 살펴보기 위해 분석 대상이 되는 단어(대상어)를 다음과 같이 두 차원으로 나누어 선정하였다. 관련어는 대상어와 한 문장안에서 유의미하게 함께 출현하는 단어(공기어)로 정의하고 대상어의 관련어를 선정한다. 먼저 역대 대선의 주요 이슈와 특징을 객관적으로 파악하기 위해 ‘대선, 공약, 선거, 단일화’를 대상어로 선정하고 그 관련어를 분석할 것이다. 추출된 관련어는 통계적으로 유의한 지수(t-점수) 값을 가진 관련어를 모두 비교해서 대상어와 이들 사이의 변화 양상을 추적한다. 다음으로 역대 대선별 주요 후보들로서 16대에서는 ‘노무현, 이회창’, 17대에서는 ‘이명박, 정동영’, 18대에서는 ‘박근혜, 문재인’이 대상어가 된다. 관련어 사이의 연결 관계를 통해 후보의 특성을 객관적으로 포착할 수 있으며 이러한 양상을 대선 결과와 비교, 분석할 것이다. 이러한 분석 과정에는 동일한 관련어라 하더라도 관련성의 정도 차이도 함께 고려된다. 신문은 비교적 공적인 매체라는 점, 데이터가 정형화되어 있다는 점 등을 고려할 때 객관적인 분석 대상이 될 수 있다. 신문을 활용한 본고의 연구가 대선이외의 다른 분야에도 확장되어 쓰일 수 있다는 점은 바로 신문이 지닌 이러한 특성에서 기인하는 것이다.

The purpose of this article is to analyze socio-cultural trend of a social issue through scrutinizing the usage transition of the presidential election associated words on major daily newspapers. The analysis object text was extracted from corpus, and the analysis period was each three months until the day before the election day from the 16th to 18th election in the 2000s. To examine the varied aspect of the elections, analysis target words needed to be categorized into two categories. Associated words are the words significantly co-occur with the target words within the same sentence. First, to apprehend the major issues and features of the elections, daesun (presidential election), gongyak (pledge), sungeo (election), and danilhwa (unification) was selected as target words, and associated words with them will be analyzed in the following chapters. Among them, words with statistically meaningful index (T score) will be selected and its transition aspect will be examined comparing with target words. Secondly, major candidates of the presidential elections in the past - ‘Roh Myhyun, Lee Hhoechang’ (노무현, 이회 창) at the 16th, ‘Lee Myungbak, Jeong Dongyoung’ (이명박, 정동영) at the 17th, and ‘Park Geunhye, Mun Jaein’ (박근혜, 문재인) at the 19th election - were selected as target words. By connecting associated words, the characteristics of the candidates can be captured. After that, overall results will be analyzed by comparing with the election results. Even when the identical associated word is analyzed, degrees of relevance will be considered as well during the process of analysis. Newspapers can be regarded as objective analysis object for its standardized data and its nature of publicness. Newspaper`s objectivity as a research material makes it possible to apply research method of this essay to other fields other than
