이 연구는 지적장애인이 고등학교를 졸업한 이후의 전환 실태와 개선 방안을 다루고 있다. 연구의 방법으로는 관련 논문, 통계자료, 저서들을 중심으로 한 문헌연구이며, 연구의 결과는 크게 실태와 개선 방안으로 구분하여 진학, 평생교육/훈련, 고용, 지역사회생활에 관한 내용을 제시하였다. 진학은 전공과, 전문대학, 4년제 대학을, 평생교육/훈련은 대학교 내 평생교육원, 장애인복지관, 직업재활시설, 생활시설 등 관련기관에서 이루어지는 교육이나 재활훈련을, 고용은 지원고용과 보호고용을, 지역사회생활은 거주, 자립생화, 여가생활을 중심으로 실태를 제시 하였다. 이 논문에서는 지적장애인이 고등학교를 졸업한 이후의 전환 실태를 바탕으로 성인으로서의 삶의 질은 개선하기 위한 전환 방안을 제안하고 있다. 지적장애학생의 전환교육 성과를 제고하기 위해 학교에서의 전환교육, 성인재활기관의 프로그램 다양화 및 확대, 학교와 성인재활기관 간의 연계가 강화되어야 한다.

The purpose of the study was to investigate transition status and directions for high school graduates with intellectual disabilities in Korea, Literature study was the major research method and related research articles, government statistics data, and research reports were analysed and presented. Results of the study were divided into status and directions of the transition in areas of entrance of the postsecondary instiutions, lifelong education and training, employment, and community living. Entrance of the postsecondary instiutes included post program in special high school, 2 years college, and four years university. Lifelong education and training were provided by the lifelong institute as universities, community welfare centers, vocational rehabilitation centers, and residential centers. Employment was composed of supported employment and sheltered workshop employment, Community living was focused on residential life, independent living, and recreations. The study suggested transition directions to enhance quality of life for high school graduates with intellectual disabilities in Kores.
