<운봉전>은 조선족 장편설화이다. <운봉전>에는 구약설화를 중심으로 아기장수설화, 지하대적퇴치설화, 괴물퇴치설화 등이 수용되어 있다. <운봉전>의 핵심 내용이 약초를 구해와 마을 사람들을 살리는 것이기 때문에 구약설화를 근간으로 세 유형의 설화가 수용되었음을 알 수 있다. <운봉전>에 수용된 기존의 설화들은 같은 유형이라 할지라도 작가의 의도와 필요에 따라 부분적으로 취사선택되었다. 수용되면서 원형을 유지한 경우는 거의 없고, 다른 유형과 연결되거나 내용의 일부가 바뀌는 등 다양한 변이를 보이고 있다. 이러한 변이의 중심에는 주인공 운봉에 대한 민중적 영웅화가 있다. <운봉전>은 운봉을 민중적 영웅으로 만들기 위해 여려 유형의 설화들을 수용하면서 다양한 내용으로 변이시켰다. 운봉이 괴물들을 퇴치하고 약초를 구해올 수 있게 하기 위해 아기장수설화를 수용했고, 죽임을 당하지 않고 성장할 수 있게 하기 위해 체제도전의 민중적 영웅으로서의는 한계를 설정하였다. 지하대적퇴치설화를 수용하면서 공주와의 결혼을 거부하고 민간 처녀와 결혼하게 하였다. 괴물퇴치설화를 수용하면서 운봉을 피해자가 아닌 구출자로 변이시켜 운봉이 개인의 이익을 구추하지 않는 민중이 영웅임을 분명히 하였다. <운봉전>에서 운봉은 배경설화의 주인공들과는 달리 더 이상 설화적 영웅이 아니라 조선족을 대변하는 민족적 영웅, 가난하고 힘없는 사람들을 구출하는 민중적 영웅, 현실에서 살아 숨쉬는 사회적 영웅으로 재창조되었다.

Chosunjok folk tales are the ones collected and published by the Chosunjok writers. Chosunjok long folk tales are the ones in which several different types of Chosunjok folk tales are connected. Since professional writers themselves collected and classified folk tales, there tend to be more long folk tales in Chosunjok``s than in South Koreans``. Woonbongjun is one of the Chosunjok long folk tales. Kuyak story is the leading plot of Woonbongjun, but several other tales such as ageejangsu story, jihadaejuktoechi story, goemooltoechi story etc. are also involved in it. The main plot of kuyak story, which maintain the major part of Woonbongjun, is about a hero who managed to find medicine herbs and to save his family members or neighbours. The connected stories such as ageejangsu story, jihadaejuktoechi story, goemooltoechi story contribute to glorify the hero`s deeds. But on the way of merging those stories, the plots of the stories had been changed to shape Woonbong into a popular and impressive hero. One of the main changes was that Woonbong married not the princess he saved but a common girl. This change of the story had the effect of making Woonbong not just one of the heroes but the ideal hero of common people.
