이 연구는 어머니 양육행동과 초등학생 괴롭힘 가해의 관계에서 정서조절력과 공감의 중다매개효과를 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 질문지를 통해 수집한 초등학생 5, 6학년 698명의 자료를 구조방정식모형을 활용하여 분석하였다. 이 연구에서 밝혀진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니 양육행동은 정서조절력과 공감에 각각 유의한 정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 정서조절력은 공감에 유의한 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 또한 공감은 괴롭힘 가해에 유의한 부적 영향을 미쳤다. 그러나 예측과 다르게 어머니 양육행동에서 괴롭힘 가해에 이르는 경로는 간명한 모형을 채택하는 과정에서 제외 되었고, 정서조절력에서 괴롭힘 가해에 이르는 경로는 유의하지 않았다. 둘째, 어머니 양육행동과 괴롭힘 가해의 관계에서 공감의 매개효과가 유의하였으며, 정서조절력과 공감의 중다매개효과가 유의하였다. 즉, 어머니 양육행동이 공감을 매개로 괴롭힘 가해에 영향을 미치고, 정서조절력만을 매 개로 하여 괴롭힘 가해에 영향을 미치지는 못하지만 정서조절력과 공감을 중다매개로 괴롭힘 가해 에 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이 연구에서는 어머니 양육행동과 괴롭힘 가해의 관계에서 정서조절력과 공감의 중다매개효과를 확인함으로써 초등학생의 괴롭힘 가해를 감소시키기 위해 어머니를 대상으로 자녀양육에 관한 조언 및 훈련의 제공과 더불어 초등학생을 대상으로 정서조절력과 공감의 증진을 위한 예방 및 개입의 실시가 중요하다는 것을 밝혔다. 끝으로 이 연구의 시사점과 의의, 제한점과 추후 연구방향을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to test the multiple mediated effects of emotion regulation and empathy in the relation between maternal parenting and bullying of elementary school students. Data were collected from 698 fifth- and sixth-grade students through the maternal parenting scale, the emotion regulation scale, the empathy scale, and the bullying scale. Correlational analyses and structural equation modeling analyses were conducted to test research hypotheses. The results of this study were summarized as follows. In the relational model with emotion regulation and empathy as mediators, maternal parenting as a predictor and bullying as an outcome variable, maternal parenting had a positive effect on empathy and emotion regulation, respectively. Emotion regulation had a positive effect on empathy but empathy had a negative effect on bullying. The mediated effect of empathy was found significant in the relation between maternal parenting and bullying. However, the mediated effect of emotion regulation was not significant in the relation between maternal parenting and bullying. The multiple mediated effects of emotion regulation and empathy were significant in the relation between maternal parenting and bullying. These findings provide not only more concrete and empirical explanations on the mechanism mediating the relation between maternal parenting and bullying but also a solid knowledge base for the development of counseling and psychological interventions for bullies in elementary schools and their mothers.
