본 연구는 한국 성인의 정서에 적합한 구성개념이 반영된 낙관성 척도를 개발하고, 그 타당도를 검증하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해, 한국인의 낙관성과 기존 낙관성 척도에 대한 선행 연구와 문헌고찰, 개방형 조사 및 개인 면담 결과에 근거하여 낙관성의 잠정적 구성개념을 설 정하였다. 본 연구에서는 낙관성을 ‘성향적 낙관성(DO)’과 ‘해석양식적 낙관성(OES)’으로 나누어 잠 정적으로 개념화하였고, 각각을 별도의 예비척도로 제작하여 전국의 성인 622명을 대상으로 탐색적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 다음으로, 1,244명의 성인들을 대상으로 실시한 확인적 요인분석을 통해 요인구조의 적합성을 검증하여 한국인용 낙관성척도를 완성하고, 공인타당도 및 구인타당도 검증을 통해 타당화하였다. 최종 완성된 한국인용 성향적 낙관성 척도는 4요인(삶에 대한 긍정적 기대, 삶 에 대한 긍정적 인식과 대처, 관계에 대한 낙관적 성향, 성취에 대한 낙관적 성향) 25문항으로 구성 되었으며, 한국인용 해석양식적 낙관성 척도는 2요인(부정적 사건에 대한 낙관적 해석, 긍정적 사건 에 대한 낙관적 해석) 13문항으로 구성되었다. 본 연구에서 개발된 한국인용 낙관성 척도는 한국인 들의 낙관성을 증진시키기 위한 프로그램의 개발에 중요한 내용적 구성요소들을 제공할 것이며, 한 국문화에 적합한 낙관성을 이해하는 데 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다.

The purpose of this study is two fold. First, the theoretical construct of optimism for Korean adults was explored and a “Korean Optimism Scale” was developed on the basis of the construct. Second, a “Korean Optimism Scale” was validated.. This study followed the standard procedures of instrument development. First, the construct of “optimism” was examined through comprehensive review of literatures related to Korean`s optimism, existing optimism scales, and the responses of Korean adults to open-ended questions and interviews about optimism. The construct of optimism was divided into two types - ``Dispositional Optimism(DO)`` and ‘Optimistic Explanatory Style(OES),`` - which led to two subscales. A preliminary scale was administered to a sample of 639 Korean adults, and an exploratory factor analysis was performed based on the responses of the 622 participants. Second, the fit of factor structure, concurrent validity, and construct validity of the Korean Optimism Scale were examined by a series of statistical analysis. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis, using a different sample of 1244 Korean adults, revealed that the factor structures of both subscales were appropriate. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the DO scale consisted of 4 factors with 25 items (4-7 items per factor). The four factors were: 1) Positive Expectation of Life; 2) Positive Recognition and Management of Life; 3) Optimistic Disposition About Relationships; and 4) Optimistic Disposition About Achievements. The OES scale consisted of 2 factors with 13 items. The two factors were: 1) Optimistic Explanation About Negative Events; and 2) Optimistic Explanation About Positive Events. It is expected that the Korean Optimism Scale developed in this study is used not only to deepen an understanding of optimism in Korean culture but also to provide essential contents of optimism improvement programs for Koreans.
