본 연구에서는 고등학생이 지각한 부모애착, 적응적 방어기제, 학교생활적응 간의 관련성에 초점을 두고 특히 부모애착과 학교생활적응의 관계에서 적응적 방어기제의 조절효과를 확인하였다. 이를 위해 일반계 고등학교 1, 2학년 남녀 학생 405명으로부터 수집된 자료를 대상으로 애착과 적응적 방어기제가 학교생활적응에 영향을 미치고, 적응적 방어기제는 애착과 학교생활적응에 조절변인으로 작용할 것이라는 연구모형을 설정하고 위계적 회귀분석을 통해 이를 검증하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 애착과 학교생활적응의 하위요인인 학업적응, 학교 환경 및 일반적응과의 관계에서 적응적 방어기 제의 조절효과가 확인되었다. 둘째, 조절효과의 양상을 확인해본 결과, 적응적 방어기제 수준이 높은 청소년들은 부모와의 애착이 안정적일수록 학업 및 사회, 학교 환경 및 일반적인 생활영역에서 잘 적응하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 적응적 방어기제 수준이 낮은 청소년들의 경우 부모와의 애착 수준이 사회나 학교 환경 및 일반적인 생활영역의 적응에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하였으며, 학업 적인 면에서도 잘 적응하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 청소년에 있어서 적응적인 방어기 제를 형성하지 못한다면 부모와의 애착이 잘 형성되었을지라도 학교에서의 적응에 어려움을 경험할 수 있음을 밝혔다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 이어서 교육 및 상담 장면에 대한 시사점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was twofold. One was to investigate the relationship among high school students` perceived parental attachment, adaptive defense mechanism, and school adjustment. The other was to test the moderating effect of adaptive defense mechanism in the relationship between parental attachment and school adjustment. A total of 405 first and second year male and female high school students participated in this study by responding to a questionnaire including measures of attachment, adaptive defense mechanism, and school adjustment. For the data analysis, the statistical program (SPSS, Version 18.0) was used. Correlation and hierarchical regression analyses were performed. The results of this research were as follows. First, academic adjustment and social adaptation showed a statistically significant correlation. Secondly, adaptive defense mechanisms of students positively impacted all the subfactors of school adjustment (academic adjustment, social adjustment, and general adjustment). Third, adaptive defense mechanism moderated significantly the relationship between attachment and school adjustment. Adaptive defense mechanism was found to have a protective function in terms of buffering the negative effect of student`s unstable attachment on school adjustment.
