본 연구는 초등학교 6학년 학생의 내현적 자기애 성향이 대인관계문제에 영향을 미치는 과정을 경험적으로 확인하고자 하였으며 매개변인으로 열등감과 부정적 자동사고를 상정하였다. 경기도와 강 원도 일대의 초등학교 6학년 남녀 1,139명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였으며 내현적 자기애 점수 상 위 30%인 353명[남자 184명(52.1%), 여자 169명(47.9%), 총 인원 353명]만을 본 연구 자료로 이용하였다. 변인들 간 관계를 살펴보기 위해 SPSS 18.0으로 Hayes(2012)가 제안한 순차적 중다매개효과 검 증을 실시하였고 간접효과의 유의성은 Hayes(2012)가 개발한 프로그램 PROCESS를 이용한 부트스트레핑(Bootstrapping) 방법으로 검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 내현적 자기애, 열등감, 부정적 자동사고, 대인관계문제는 정적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 내현적 자기애와 대인관 계문제 (세 개의 하위요인별) 간 관계에서 열등감과 부정적 자동사고의 순차적 매개효과가 유의했다. 끝으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점에 대해 논의하였다.

The current study investigated the relationship between covert narcissism and interpersonal problems among sixth graders in elementary schools along with the mediating effects of inferiority and negative automatic thoughts. The data were collected through a survey with 1,139 sixth-grade boys and girls in Gyeonggi and Gangwon Province. Only the data of 353 sixth graders [184 boys (52.1%), 169 girls (47.9%)] whose covert narcissism scores were in top 30% were statistically analysed for this study. In examining the relationships among the variables, multi-mediating effects were identified through conducting a test, multiple mediation model operating in serial, proposed by Hayes (2012). Then, using SPSS Macro Program developed by Hayes (2012), a bootstrapping method was performed to confirm the significance of indirect effects. The research findings are as follows: first, there were positive correlations among covert narcissism, inferiority, negative automatic thoughts, and interpersonal problems. Second, inferiority and negative automatic thoughts had significant mediating effects between covert narcissism and interpersonal problems. In specific, covert narcissism also had statistically significant indirect effects on interpersonal problems through inferiority and negative automatic thoughts in the order. Lastly, we discussed the implications and the limitations of this study.
