본 연구는 사례연구로서 병리적 자기애 성향의 내담자를 정신분석적 대상관계이론에 근거하여 치료한 사례를 제시하였다. 먼저 자기애적 성격장애의 진단기준을 제시하고, 회기 요약과 함께 치료과정에 따른 변화를 기술하였다. 그리고 병리적 자기애 치료의 핵심이 되는 내담자의 자기애적 전이와 치료자의 역전이에 초점을 맞추어 치료적 관계를 분석하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구 사례의 진단적 논의와 치료적 성과와 한계, 그리고 단일 사례연구의 장단점 등이 논의되었다.

Narcissism in clinical and non-clinical settings has captured growing attention of psychotherapists and researchers. This study presents a case of pathological narcissism from the perspective of Psychoanalytic Object Relations Theory. Beginning with diagnostic criteria for the Narcissistic Personality Disorder, summaries of therapy sessions are given followed by synopsis of therapeutic change. Narcissistic transference and counter-transference known as core factors for the psychotherapy of pathological narcissism is examined in detail. Finally, therapeutic outcome and its limitations are discussed along with the merits and demerits of a single case study.
