본 연구의 목적은 노인의 노화지식수준이 노인에 대한 태도, 자아존중감, 우울을 매개로 하여 자살 생각에 영향을 미치는 경로를 연구해보고자 했다. 연구대상은 경기도, 강원도, 충청북도 지역의 노 인 585명을 최종분석에 사용 하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 노인의 노화관련 지식수준은 노인에 대한 태도 와 우울을 매개변인으로 하여 노인의 자살생각에 간접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 노인의 노화관련 지식수준은 자아존중감과 우울을 매개변인으로 하여 노인의 자살생각에 간접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 노화관련 지식수준은 우울에, 노인에 대한 태도는 자아존중감에 직접적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 앞으로 노인교육을 통해 노인의 노화지식수준을 향상시킴으로써 노인 스스로에 대 한 편견을 해소하고 노인 자살을 예방하기위한 노력이 매우 절실하다.

This study addresses a number of issues related to suicide ideation among older adults in Korea. The study investigates various aspects of elderly`s suicide ideation, and how this level of knowledge on aging impacts on their suicide ideation on the mediating effect of attitude toward elderly, self-esteem, and depression. The subject for this research were 585 community dwelling elderly 65 years and over in Kyonggi-do, Kwangwon-do, and Chungbuk. The results of this study were as follows. First, level of knowledge on aging showed statistically significant suicide ideation of the elderly on the mediating effect negative attitudes toward elderly and depression. Second, level of knowledge on aging also showed statistically significant suicide ideation of the elderly on the mediating effect self-esteem and depression. However, there are no significantly association between level of aging facts and depression, or attitude toward elderly and self-esteem. Finally, we should improve the elderly people`s quality of life and level of aging knowledge to reduce ageism and suicide ideation.
