본 연구는 우리나라에서 진행된 다문화 연구의 현황과 다문화 상담연구의 현황을 탐색하기 위한 것 이다. 연구대상은 한국 이외의 사회에서 국내로 이주해 온 주요 다문화 인구인 국제결혼 가정, 북한 이탈주민, 외국인 근로자, 외국인 유학생에 관한 연구들이다. 단, 이들에 대한 한국인의 태도나 행동 또한 다문화 연구에서 주의 깊게 다루어져야 한다는 점에서 다문화 인구에 대한 한국인의 태도 및 행동관련 연구도 연구 대상으로 추가하였다. 학술연구정보 서비스, 국회도서관, 국립중앙도서관의 전자도서 DB를 검색하여 제목이나 주요어에 다문화 관련 용어를 포함하고 있는 2008년까지의 연구 물들을 검색하였다. 연구물의 범위는 국내 학술지, 학위논문, 단행본 등이었다. 최종 분석 대상 2,900개의 연구물에 대하여 다문화 대상별·주제별·연도별 현황을 분석하였다. 연구결과 국내의 다 문화 연구는 최근 들어 급격히 늘어났으며, 누적 비율로는 북한이탈주민과 외국인 근로자가 가장 많았으나 2006년 이후에는 국제결혼 가정에 대한 연구가 가장 많이 수행되고 있다. 주제별로는 실태조사가 가장 많았고, 다음으로는 정책, 교육, 철학/종교의 순이었다. 다문화 연구대상을 세대별로 보면 아직 본인세대에 대한 연구가 압도적으로 많지만 자녀세대의 연구비율이 급격히 높아지고 있다. 다문화 상담연구는 최근 들어 현저하게 증가하고 있으나 연구대상 전체 연구 중 3.4%에 불과하여 아직 출발단계에 있음을 알 수 있었다.

This study is for exploring the situation of multi-cultural studies and multi-cultural counseling studies in Korea. This study dealt with the researches about multi-cultural families through international marriage, immigrants from north Korea, immigrant workers, and foreign students as research subjects. This study also included Korean attitude and behaviors toward multi-cultural population. By looking into the DB of RISS, National Assembly Library, and The National Library of Korea, the researchers found out multi-cultural studies among academic journals, theses for degrees, and the books. The final subjects of research is 2990 studies. The subjects, time, and theme were analyzed of these studies. The results were as follows: The number of multi-cultural studies in Korea was rapidly increasing. The studies for immigrants from north Korea and immigrant workers were more frequent in cumulative percentage. But after 2006, the most frequent researches were for the multi-cultural through international marriage. The researches on the actual condition were most frequent over the time. By generation, the studies for parent generation appeared most frequently while the studies for their children were rapidly increasing. The multi-cultural counseling researches were rarely performed.
