본 연구에서는 Rosenberg의 자아존중감 척도 8번 문항의 번역오류를 수정을 통해 문항수준에서의 타당도를 높이고자 하였다. 구체적으로 전국의 중, 고등학생 338명을 대상으로 8번 문항을 3종류로 수 정하여 타당도를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 8번 문항을 ``나는 나를 더 존중하지 못해 안타깝다``로 번역하였을 때, 단일문항-총점간 상관, 내적합치도, 그리고 요인분석의 결과에서 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 구문론상의 문제를 바탕으로 한 번역상의 오류와 사회 문화적인 측면을 반영하지 않았을 때 나타나는 해석상의 오류를 반영하여 수정한 것으로, 이 같은 결과는 이질적인 문화의 척도를 사용할 때 신뢰도와 타당도를 높일수 있는 방안을 모색했다는 데 의의가 있다.

In this study, we intended to improve the item-level validity by revising 8th Item of Rosenberg`s Self-Esteem Scale(RSES). Specifically, a total of 338 students participated in this study to assess the validity of three types of revised 8th Item. The results indicated that the third revised item, "나는 나를 더 존중하지 못해 안타깝다", is the most appropriate item in terms of the results of item-total correlation, internal consistency reliability, and factor analysis. The revised item reflects the nature of errors in item translation and in different interpretation of sociocultural contexts. The present study yielded high scores on reliability and validity through revising item with several important implications for future researchers to identify and address potential problems of scale items in cross-cultural contexts.
