본 연구는 국내 상담관련 전공 대학원 석사 과정 동안 상담 교육생들이 어떠한 경험을 하고 있는 지를 탐색하고 이해하기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 10명의 상담 심리와 관련된 전공으로 석사학위를 받은 졸업생을 대상으로 회고적 심층면접을 실시하고 질적 연구 방법 중 하나인 근거이론방법을 적용하여 면접결과를 분석하였으며, 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 상담 전공생들은 분명한 동기를 가지고 상담 석사 과정에 들어오지만 상담심리학 전공 내지 이후 진로에 관한 객관적인 정보가 부 족한 상태에서 상담 공부를 시작하였다. 석사과정 동안 자기에 대한 혼란스러움, 상담자로서 부족함을 느끼게 되는데 이를 통해 끊임없이 자기를 들여다보는 자기 성찰의 과정이 석사 과정 경험의 핵 심 현상으로 드러났다. 이렇게 자기 성찰의 과정을 통해 새로운 시도를 해보고, 대부분 부정적인 경 험을 성장의 밑거름으로 삼게 되는데 이 과정에서 의미 있는 관계 경험이 중요한 맥락적 요건으로 작용하였다. 석사 대학원과정 중의 경험은 매우 역동적인 성장 과정으로 면접자들은 졸업 시점에는 개인적인 성장과 더불어 전문상담자의 길로 입문했다는 느낌을 갖게 되었다. 연구 결과를 토대로 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 하였다.

The purpose of the present study was to examine what graduate students in counseling psychology experience during their graduate studies in Korea. We interviewed 10 novice counselors graduating from graduate schools within one year. We used Grounded Theory to analyze the interview results. Results of analysis indicated that counselor trainees entered graduate program with vision, but with lack of objective information on counseling fof desultsstudents became confused confronting their personal issues, and went through intense indi-reff ctive process. It was showtrao be a very dynamic processrao integrate different sources of learning into indi-reff ction process. Meaningful relationship was importantrao facilitate the reff ction. Participants felt grown personally dynamic processly pamiaindi-rgraduation. The present study amivided a clear picture ihowdi-rwhat and how graduate student in counseling psychology experience in their graduate studies. Some cultural implications in counselor education and counselor developmental issues were discussed.
