Linehan(1997)이 제안한 상담자의 타당화(validation) 수준을 내담자가 평정하는 상담자의 타당화 수준 평가 척도(Perceived Validation Scale: PVS)를 개발하였다. 타당화란 내담자와 내담자의 반응에 내재된 본질적인 의미와 이해가능성, 즉 타당성을 발견하고 이를 내담자에게 전달하는 것으로 정의된다. 문 헌 질적 분석을 통해 총 105개의 예비문항을 개발하고, 전문가의 내용타당도 검증을 거친 뒤, 대학 생 이상 성인 내담자 259명을 대상으로 예비연구를 실시하여 총 18 문항을 선정하였다. PVS는 내적 일관성, 시간적 안정성을 갖추었을 뿐 아니라, Linehan(1997)이 제안한 6요인구조를 지지하였다. 또한, 타당화 수준을 고려하여 생성한 변수 PVS-D는 공감적 이해 소척도(EUS), 상담자 평정척도(CRF-S)의 기존 도구에 비해 상담성과를 보다 잘 설명하였다. PVS개발의 의의와 제한점, 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 논의하였다.

The Perceived Validation Scale (PVS) was developed and validated to assess counselor``s validation level perceived by clients. The concept and the level of validation was suggested by Linehan (1993). A total of 105 preliminary items were selected through in-depth literature review. The contents of the selected items were validated by 2 counseling professionals. The readability of each item was checked. The final 18 items of the PVS were developed, and the psychometric properties of the PVS were examined through the study with 259 actual clients. The PVS demonstrated high level of internal consistency, and the result of factor analysis identified six-factor construct, which was the best fit to the six-levels of the validation model theoretically proposed by Linehan (1993). The validity of the PVS was verified with Outcome Questionnaire 30 (OQ-30), Empathic Understanding subscale (EUS), Counselor Rating Form (CRF-S), Test of negative social exchange (TENSE). Finally, the implication and the future studies of the PVS were discussed.
