본 연구는 청소년기 정서표현 갈등과 외로움, 그리고 수치심의 관계를 살펴보고, 정서표현 갈등과 외로움 간의 관계에서 수치심의 매개효과를 검증해봄으로써, 외로움으로 부적응을 겪고 있는 청소년들에게 도움을 줄 수 있는 방법을 모색하고자 하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구는 경기도 소재의 고등학교에 재학 중인 1, 2, 3학년 여학생 705명을 대상으로 하였다. 상관분석에서 정서표현 갈등과 수치심 하위변인은 중간정도의 유의한 정적상관을 보였다. 또한 정서표현 갈등과 외로움 하위변인과의 관계에서는 정서표현 갈등과 친밀감 부족이 중간 정도의 정적상관을 나타냈고, 사회적 관계 지지망 부족과 소속감 부족과는 낮은 정도의 정적상관을 나타냈다. 모형검증 과정에서 수치심은 정서표현 갈등과 외로움의 관계를 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 정서표현 갈등은 외로움에 직접적으로 영향을 미치기보다는, 수치심을 통해 외로움에 영향을 주는 것으로 확인되었다. 연구는 청소년의 외로움을 심화시키는 심리내적 변인으로서 정서표현 갈등과 수치심에 주목하여, 외로움을 더욱 더 다각적으로 이해하고, 구체적인 상담개입의 방향의 확장을 모색하고자 함에 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ambivalence over emotional expression and shame on their loneliness, which has a huge influence on their psychological maladaptiveness and interpersonal relationships. A total of 705 girls` high school students living in the National Capital region were asked to fill out a questionnaire. The research findings were as follows: correlation analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between ambivalence over emotional expression, shame, and loneliness. The analysis results show that there were positive significant correlations among these factors. Shame had a fully mediating effect between ambivalence over emotional expression and loneliness. In short, it is apparent that ambivalence over emotional expression can have noticeable indirect effects upon loneliness via shame in addition to direct effects. This suggests that counseling interventions to help girls` high school students deal with interpersonal loneliness. Also this results could suggest to understand their individual ambivalence over emotional expression and internal shame to increase the understanding of loneliness. Such counseling interventions should also keep in mind the potential combined effects of ambivalence over emotional expression and shame on their loneliness.
