본 연구는 개인의 수치심경향성과 대인관계와의 관련성을 살펴보고 수치심경향성이 대인관계에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 자기제시동기의 조절효과에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 대학생245명(남 88, 여 156)을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과 수치심경향성은 자기제시 동기와 대인관계에서 각각 정적, 부적 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 수치심경향성과 대인관계간의 관계에 있어서 자기제시동기가 조절효과를 갖는다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 즉, 자기제시동기가 높은 경우는 수치심경향성이 대인관계에 더욱 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 자기제시동기가 낮은 경우는 수치심경향성이 높다고 하더라도 상대적으로 대인관계에 미치는 영향력이 줄어드는 것을 발견할 수 있었다. 수치심경향성이 높은 사람은 대인관계에 대한 어려움을 경험하는 경우가 많은데 자기제시동기에 대한 인식과 조절을 할 수 있도록 조력한다면 대인관계에서의 부적응적측면을 완화할 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 이는 상담 장면에서 수치심경향성이 높은 내담자에 대한 접근방식으로 새로운 동기적 측면에 대한 이해와 필요성에 대해 언급하였다는 점에서 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있겠고, 개인의 수치심경향성과 관련된 연구의 폭을 넓힐 수 있었다는 데에 시사점이 있다.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the relations of shame-proneness and interpersonal relation, and to examine the moderation effects of self-presentational motivation on these relations. For this study, 245 college students were recruited. Results were as follows. First, shame-proneness was positively associated with selfpresentational motivation but shame-proneness was negatively associated with interpersonal relation. Second, selfpresentational motivation moderated the relation between shame-proneness and interpersonal relation. Namely, those with higher levels of shame-proneness were negatively related to interpersonal relation according to higher levels of self-presentational motivation. On the other hand, those with higher levels of shame-proneness were positively related to interpersonal relation according to lower levels of self-presentational motivation. Finally, the discussion follows about the meaning and limitations of this research.
