본 연구는 소아암 환아 어머니들이 역경 속에서도 성장해 가는 심리적인 힘을 알아보고자 소아암환아 어머니들의 희망과 삶의 의미가 외상 후 성장에 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. 이를 위해 수도권4개 대학 병원에 입원해 있거나 외래를 방문한 환아 어머니 106명을 대상으로 희망, 삶의 의미, 외상 후 성장, 주관적 안녕감을 측정하였다. 자료 분석은 첫째, 희망과 외상 후 성장과의 관계에서 삶의 의미의 매개효과가 있는지 살펴보았고, 그 다음 삶의 의미 척도의 하위요소인 의미발견 및 의미추구 각각의 매개효과를 살펴보았다. 둘째, 앞서 살펴본 매개효과 분석과는 별도로 소아암 환아 어머니의 외상 후 성장이 그들의 주관적 안녕감에 유의한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다. 그 결과 첫째, 희망은 외상 후 성장을 예언하는 변인이었으며, 둘째, 삶의 의미는 희망과 외상 후 성장간의 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 삶의 의미의 하위 요인인 의미 발견과 의미 추구 둘 다 희망과 외상 후 성장간의 관계를 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 외상 후 성장은 주관적 안녕감을 예언하는 변인으로 나타났다. 이 같은 결과는 소아암 환아 어머니들이 역경 속에서 성장해가는 과정에서 희망과 삶의 의미의 역할을 보여주는 것이며, 소아암 환아 어머니들을 비롯한 외상을 경험한 내담자를 위한 심리적 개입의 가능성을 시사하는 것이다.
The purpose of this study is to examine the psychological strength that allows the mothers to grow in such adversity. For this, a survey was conducted on 106 mothers of both in-patient and out-patient of childhood cancer in four major university hospitals. To do so, the effect of hope and life meaning on posttraumatic growth was examined. First, existence of mediating effects of life meaning on relationship between hope and posttraumatic growth was examined. Then examined was the existence of mediating effects of ``searching for meaning``, and ``presence of meaning`` which are the subscale of The Meaning in Life Questionnare (MLQ). And the effect of posttraumatic growth on subjective well-beingness was examined as well. The survey result showed that, first, hope is a variable that predicts posttraumatic growth. Second, life meaning mediate the relationship between hope and posttraumatic growth. Third, the subscale of MLQ; searching for meaning, presence of meaning had partial mediating effect on the relationship between hope and posttraumatic growth. In conclusion, this study was able examine the role of hope and life meaning as the mothers experience growth amid such adversities. Moreover, this study verified that these variables can be used in psychological intervention for the client who has a child afflicted with cancer or had experienced any kind of trauma.
