본 연구는 대가 치료자 소암 이동식 선생의 발달과정의 특성과 발달단계를 확인하고자 한다. 분석은 연구자가 실시한 총 17회의 면접 자료와 이동식 선생이 저술한 논문 및 저서, 관련 문헌 등을 질적사례연구(Merriam, 1988)에 근거하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 범주화 분석에서 83개의 단위, 38개의 하위범주, 18개의 범주가 도출되었다. 범주화 결과를 기반으로 하여 이동식 선생의 발단단계를 분석한 결과 ‘잠재기’, ‘준비기’, ‘발견기’, ‘몰입기’, ‘통합기’, ‘정립기’, ‘확장기’로 나타났다. 범주로는 ‘치료자로서 필요한 자질을 미리 갖춤’, ‘어려서부터 자기와 타인에 대한 통찰력을 갖추었음’, ‘의사로서 다방면에 기초지식을 쌓음’, ‘노이로제의 배후에 감정이 원인임을 깨달음’, ‘위기를 극복함’, ‘치료자로서 나를 발견함’, ‘주체성이 중심임’, ‘동양의 도와 서양의 정신치료에 깊이 몰입함’, ‘핵심감정을 발견함’, ``사회 참여로 국민 계몽에 힘씀’, ``동·서 정신치료의 통합을 시도함’, ``오직 진리와 정의를 추구함’, ‘오로지 증득만을 인정함’, ‘도정신치료를 세상에 천명함’, ‘자비심을 위한 수도를 지속함’, ‘도정신치료로 한국 정신치료의 위상을 높임’, ‘허심으로 세상을 바로 봄’, ‘치료자 양성에 평생 기여함’이 있다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 이동식 선생의 발달단계와 상담자의 전문성 발달 모델을 비교하여 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to explore on developmental process (and personal quality) of master therapist Rhee Dongshick. Verbatims of 16 In-depth interviews and literatures were analysed based on the qualitative case study approach(Merriam, 1988). As a result, 83 units, 38 subcategories and 18 categories were induced. Master therapist Rhee Dongshick went through seven stages with time in his developmental process: the stage of potentiality, the stage of preparation, the stage of self-discovery, the stage of devotion, the stage of integration, the stage of establishment, the stage of propagation. Legacy models of process of counselor``s development based on the process were discussed and suggestions for future research were provided. The finding of this study would be very helpful for education of counselors by understanding on the origin and current psychotherapy of South Korea.
