This study was to investigate the influence of counselor development level and countertransference utilization on the counseling outcome. For the study, the survey questionnaires were given to the 185 counselors and the clients aged older than or the same as old as high school students who had at least five counseling sessions. Only 160 cases of them were statistically analyzed. The counselors were given demographic questions, counselor`s development level questions, countertransference utilization questions, and the counseling outcome questions. The clients were given demographic questions and the counseling outcome questions. Data were analyzed through statistical techniques of correlation analysis and structural equation modeling The outcomes of the research are as follows; (1) Counselor development level increased countertransference utilization ability. (2) Countertransference utilization ability increased the counseling outcome assessed by the counselors. (3) For intermediate counselors regarding experiences, countertransference utilization was more related to the counseling outcome than for other level counselors. (4) Countertransference utilization ability mediated the relationship between counselor`s development level and the counseling outcome. These results implied that countertransference utilization had a positive effect on the counseling outcome. Thus, this study suggested that counselors needed to use countertransference actively, and the use of countertransference utilization should be included in counselor`s education.
