본연구는 부산에 거주하는 대학생들의 대상관계에 따른 자아방어기제와 자아분화수준이 어떠한지를 살펴보고자 하였다 . 이를 위하여 부산에 거주하는 428명의 남며 대학생(남학생202명, 여학생226명)들을 표집하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대상관계가 불안정할수록 투사, 부정, 수동-공격, 행동화, 신체화, 회피 그리고 전치 방어기제를 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 반대로 대상관계가 안정될수록 이러한 방어기제를 덜 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 대상관계가 안정될수록 자아분화 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자아분화수준이 낮을수록 투사, 수동공격, 그리고 행동화 자아방어기제를 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면에 자아분화 수준이 높을수록 억제 자아방어기제를 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다.

The purpose of this research was to apply object relation and study the ego defense mechanism and self-differentiation of universitystudents in Pusan. In order to do this research, the subjects were students studying at four-year universities in the city of Pusan. Among the subjects 202 were males and 226 were females, for a total of 428 students. The measuring instrument used to measure the object relation was one developed by Bell and his colleagues(Bell, Billington, and Becker, 1986) and adapted and revised by Park(2000). The measuring instrument used to measure the ego defense mechanism was a questionnaire on Ewha defense mechanism developed by Kim and others(1991). In order to measure self-differentiation a questionnaire on Self￢Differentiation, compiled by Je(1989), was used. The data collected was analyzed by the following method: cluster analysis, X` test, ANOV A, and Scheff test. As a result of this study, the following conclusions have been reached.1. In object relationships, the more instability there is, the more projection, denial, passive-aggressive behaviour, somatization, avoidance and displacement ego defense mechanisms are used. The more object relationships are stable, the less these ego defense mechanisms will be used. 2. The more stable object relationships are, the higher the level of self-differentiation is. 3. The lower the level of self-differentiation, the higher the use of projection, passive-aggressive behaviour and acting out ego defense mechanisms are. The higher the level of self-differentiation, the higher is the use of the suppression ego defense mechanism.
