This paper is purpose to suggest competency-based career development strategies at the university level. This paper provides an overview of the National Career Development Guidelines developed by the National Occupational Information Coordinating Committee and presents competency-based career development related to the NCDG in the U.S.A. From the literature review, it is apparent that career development practices do relate to the career development competencies :Self-Knowledge, Educational?Occupational Exploration, and Career Planning. A total of 962 university students were asked to answer the three areas of career development competencies by gender, year of university, and school setting. From the results, it was suggested that career development process would be appropriate to use as a basis for developing, reviewing, and revitalizing career development programs and services. Thus, the example of intervention program model was suggested. Further studies and professional discussions on the specific competencies and areas at different levels for students and for professional career development human resources were suggested for improving the quality delivery services to the clients, whoes are mainly students in the university setting.
