본 연구에서는 프로그램을 활용한 집단상담이 활성화되고 있는 국내 추세에서 집단상담 프로그램의 현황 및 문제점을 살펴보면서, 보다 체계적인 프로그램의 개발 및 적용을 위해 고려되어야 할 요인들과 프로그램 개발모형을 제시해 보고자 하였다. 프로그램 개발에 관한 문헌조사와 지난 3년간 국내 석·박사학위 논문으로 검색된 340편의 집단상담 연구물에 대한 검토결과를 토대로, 첫째 집단상담 프로그램 및 프로그램 개발의 의미와 개발과정을 정리해 보았다. 둘째, 구조화의 정도, 공인화의 정도, 규모의 크기, 강조의 초점, 내용의 독립성, 목적과 용도, 구성내용의 영역 등의 기준으로 국내 집단상담 프로그램의 유형 및 경향을 살펴보았다. 셋째, 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초조사, 프로그램의 목적 및 목표, 프로그램 내용선정 및 조직, 실시방법, 프로그램 평가의 측면에서 나타나는 문제점들을 기술하였다. 네 번째, 집단상담 프로그램의 개발과정에서 고려되어야 할 요인들로서 프로그램의 방향, 목적 및 목표, 프로그램의 모형, 프로그램의 내용 및 진행방법 등을 제시하였다. 마지막으로, 프로그램을 개발하는 과정에서 단계적으로 진행해 나가야 할 절차들을 체계적으로 제시하는 개념적 틀로서 최근들어 국내외에서 소개되고 있는 프로그램 개발의 모형들을 소개하였다. 이와같은 연구결과는 다양한 프로그램의 형태로 집단상담이 연구과 현장에서 활성화되고 있는 시점에서 프로그램 개발에 대한 보다 명확한 이해를 상담 연구자 및 실무자에게 촉진시키는 한편, 향후 집단 프로그램의 개발 및 적용과정을 제고할 수 있는 유용한 기준과 시사점을 제시하리라고 본다. 결어에서는 본 연구의 한계점과 향후 연구에 대한 제언을 제시하였다.

This study was to investigate methodological problems involved in the process of developing group counseling programs and to present factors to be considered for more systematic program development. For this, empirical studies examining the effects of group counseling programs which were conducted during 2000-2002 in Korea and literature on program development were critically reviewed. First, conceptual definition of program development was presented in the context of group counseling. Second, tendencies of group counseling programs were described according to their degrees of being structured and accredited, purpose, content, size and focus of programs, and their subordinate programs. Third, the methodological limitations in the process of group counseling program development were described. Finally, program models were presented as conceptual frameworks for systematic group counseling program development. The implications and limitations of the study were discussed.
