상담의 대중화가 이루어지면서 점차적으로 상담의 전문성에 대한 문제가 중시되고 있다. 본고에서는 기술과 이론 위주의 기존 교육 방법의 한계를 극복하고 지속적인 상담자의 전문성 발달이 이루어질 수 있도록 돕기 위해 상담자의 자기 성찰에 대한 선행 연구들을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 전문적인 자기 성찰 과정은 상담자의 전문성이 발달해 가는 과정에서 나타나는 가장 중요한 특징 중의 하나임을 알 수 있었고, 성찰적 수퍼비젼 모델을 통해 상담자의 성찰을 촉진시킬 수 있는 과정과 방법들을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 앞으로 여러 가지 영역에서 상담자의 자기 성찰에 대한 경험적인 연구들이 활발하게 이루어져야 할 것이며, 상담자의 전문성 발달을 위해 자기 성찰 과정을 상담자 교육 장면에서 적극 활용해 가야 할 것이다.

As counseling is popular these days, we make a great point of the expertise of counseling. This paper has examined the preceding researches on the reflection to help counselors to develop continuously overcoming the limits of technical and theoretical education. As a result, we could know that professional reflection was the most important characteristic while counselors have developed from novice to expert, and that reflective supervision model gave us concrete processes and methods facilitating the ability of counselor`s reflection. Hereafter empirical studies on counselor`s reflection should be made at various domains, and reflection process should actively be applied to counselor education for the development of counselor`s expertise.
