Everyone sometimes puts things off that should be done immediately. But there are some people who suffer great losses and pain because of their habit of chronic procrastination. The problem seems getting worse in the modern society in which time is very urgent and limited. In case of college students, the responsibilities for the task performances are thoroughly on themselves, unlike those high or middle school students who are under the close supervision of their parents. To those college students who have to control the study habits as well to take full responsibility on their task performance, procrastination causes severe problems. In this study I investigated the effectiveness of group training for the students who have experienced discomfort because of their procrastination. The program for group training to change the procrastination was named "Procrastination Workshop." The major concerns of the workshop focused on the issues of time management and irrational thought like perfectionism, which were reported as the main causes for procrastination in the past studies. The workshop was consisted of 5-week sessions, one session a week, 90 minutes a session. The purpose of the study was to prove the thesis that the procrastination can be changed through appropriate training. To do this, I studied behavioral changes of procrastination in the students who participated in the Procrastination Workshop in comparison with the non-participants. For the study, I recruited volunteer students including graduate students who attended E Woman`s University. I divided them into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. 27 subjects` data were used: 14 experimental subjects who participated in all of the sessions and those who missed only one session, 13 control subjects who responded to both the pretests and the posttests. The results of the study were as follows: experimental subjects (a) showed reducing procrastination in the various acts in studies; (b) couldn`t change the basic causes of procrastination, that is, the program couldn`t help to eliminate the causes of procrastination; (c) reported that their distress caused by procrastination reduced after participating the program; (d) reported themselves that they experienced positive progress from the bad habit of procrastination; (e) evaluated the program positively and described that they experienced desirable changes in behavior, thought, and emotion. The study confirmed the results of the previous researches, which reported that, RET, time and self-management, and skills for planning were helpful to change the habit of procrastination.
