본 연구는 인간의 성격을 이해하는데 있어서 주요개념으로 사용되는 성격유형과 자아방어기제와의 관계 를 살펴보기 위하여 진행되었다. 본 연구에서는 성격유형을 측정하기 위해서 LCSI(Lim``s Character Style Inventory) 성격검사, 자아방어기제를 측정하기 위해서는 이화방어기제검사를 실시하여 상호간의 관련성을 확인하고자 하였다. 연구를 위해서 서울과 부산의 775명의 남녀 대학생이 참여하였다. 성별에 따른 분석에서 남자가 여자보다 자아방어기제를 많이 사용하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 성격유형과 자아방어기제 간에는 관련성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. LCSI 검사의 하위 요인과 방어기제 사이에는 일관된 상관관계를 보이고 있으며, LCSI에서 구분한 4가지 성격유형에 따라서 방어기제의 차이가 발견되었다. 이는 성격에 따라 사용하는 방어기제가 존재하고 있다는 것을 입증하는 것으로 여겨진다. 향후 연구에서는 LCSI의 패턴에 따른 연구가 진행되어야 할 것으로 보이며, 이화방어기제의 재 타당화작업이 선행되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

This study was proceeded to find out correlations between personality types and ego-defense mechanisms which have been used as major concepts to understand human personality. To identify correlations between those two factors, LCSI (Lim`s Character Stype Inventory) was used to measure personality types and Ewha Diagnostic Test of Defense Mechanism was used to measure ego defense mechanisms. 775 undergraduate students of male and female in Seoul and Busan were participated in this study. In the analysis according to gender, male students showed more types of ego defense mechanisms than female students. High correlations were found between personality types and ego defense mechanisms. A consistent correlation showed between the subfactors of LCSI and defense mechanism, and there were some differences according to four personality types as LCSI classified. This assumes to verify that there should be different types of ego defense mechanisms according to personality types. Therefore, subsequent study needs to be proceeded according to patterns in LCSI, and revalidation of E-wha Defense Mechanisms should be carrited out first.
