A needs assessment of career services was conducted for college students with undergraduate seniors and college graduates. A survey and focus group interviews were adopted to assess college students` needs on career development. Survey participants were 2079 undergraduate seniors and 200 college graduates. In addition, 16 undergraduate students participated in the focused group interviews. The survey included a brief question asking the respondents select five preferred career services out of the list of 14 available career?related services. The results of the survey showed that the most important career services perceived by the current undergraduates were different from those by the graduates. The top five important services indicated by the undergraduates were information on position openings (N=1,216, 58.5%), a career planning and decision making program (N=1,122, 54.0%), information on internships (N=986, 47.4%), networking with graduates (N=958, 46.1%), and career counseling and career tests (N=811, 39.0%), in this order. Meanwhile, the top five services selected by the graduates were networking with professionals (N=140, 70.0%), career planning and decision making program (N=134, 67.0%), knowledge on diverse careers (N=122, 61.0%), information on internships (N=100, 50.0%), and information on job openings (N=91, 45.5%). The difficulties common to undergraduates in career planning as well as their wants from the career development center were explored using the focus group interviews. The common difficulties identified were (a) a lack of information on potential jobs, (b) a questionable reliability of available information, (c) a lack of support from the university on career planning. The requested services to the career development center include providing information on job openings, programs on career planning (e.g., career counseling and psychological tests, workshops on job search skills, writing skills, and interview skills, a class on career decision making), and a support for students` activities related to career planning and job search (e.g., contact with various companies and internship programs etc.). The results of a needs assessment showed that services students wanted were twofold: programs on career planning and information on job openings. The applicability of the results of the current study was discussed as related to planning programs at the university career centers.
