본 연구는 마약류 사용자들의 관계구조가 마약류 사용 문제에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 근거이론적으로 분석하여 이를 상담의 자료로 활용하기 위한 것이다. 지금까지 물질사용자들에 대한 연구들이 생물학적, 심리학적, 사회학적인 접근을 통해 원인을 규명하려함으로써 오히려 물질사용자들을 이상한 사람내지 큰 결함을 가지고 있는 사람으로 규명하고 있는 점을 보면서 본 연구에서는 마약류사용자들의 기능적인 면을 이해하면서 마약류 사용에 대해 분석하였다. 이러한 물음을 해결하기 위하여 연구자는 마약류 사용으로 복역 중인 재소자 9명을 대상으로 2002년 10월 24일부터 2003년 2월 14일까 지 총 12회의 집단 상담을 실시한 후 축어록을 작성하여 원자료로 삼았으며, 원자료를 분석하는 과정에서 상담학분야의 슈퍼비전을 코딩과정으로 도입하였고 과정분석에서는 집단 진행 기록지를 활용하였다. 자료 분석을 통하여 마약류 사용자들이 마약류를 사용하게 되는 요인에는 “관계의 영역”이 깊은 영향을 주고 있었고, 마약류 사용이후부터는 “자기의 영역”의 문제들로 마약류 사용으로부터 벗어날 수 없는 상황이 강화되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 마약류 사용자들을 대상으로 집단상담을 실시하였을 때 “자기의 영역과 관계의 영역을 통한 성숙”을 관찰할 수 있었는데, 마약류 사용을 완화 시키기 위한 바람직한 형태는 “자기의 인식과 관계의 경험을 통한 자기와 관계의 성숙”으로 나타났다.

This study is to be used for research material for counseling, by analyzing grounded-theoretically how drug abusers`` awareness of self and experience of relations affects problems in abusing drugs. Observing how preceding studies on substance abusers took a biological, psychological and sociological approach in order to examine the reasons, and defined them as strange or problematic people, this study will probe to understand the technical aspect of drug abusers and at the same time analyse drug abuse. The subject of this study was chosen as 9 prisoners. In addition, in order to indicate counseling research methods through this study, 12 group counselings were carried out during October 24th. 2002 and February 14th. 2003 and verbatim were written out to be used as original material. From this study, it can be found that drug abusers had “problems about self” and “problems about relations”. The factor which affected their use of drugs was the area of relations, where as henceforth their use of drugs, the situation in which they could not escape from the use of drugs was affected by problems within the area of self. When group counselings with substance abusers were carried out, “growth through the areas of self and relations” could be observed. The most advisable form of alleviating the drug use was “growth in self and relations through awareness of self and experience of relations”.
