This study aimed to explore the effects of stress coping styles in controlling and moderating the relationships between stressors and juvenile school violent behaviors. 1191 elementary, middle, and high school students and juvenile delinquents institutionalized in a reformatory sampled in the south-western area of Korea participated in the survey. A series of hierarchical multiple regression analyses were performed to test the controlling effects of three kinds of stress coping styles and three domains of stressors(family, peer-relation, and school) on the levels of violent behaviors. First of all, the levels of stressors were positively associated with the levels of school violent behaviors, and the styles of stress coping controlled approximately 70% of the variance of violent behaviors which was explained by stressors. On the other hand, all three stress coping styles had consistently significant and negative effects in moderating relationships between stressors and school violent behaviors. In other words, the positive relationships between stressors and school violent behaviors were significantly decreased by all three stress coping styles. However, compared with the active stress coping style, passive and mystic coping styles were higher in moderating the relationship between stressors and violent behaviors. All these findings were discussed in the context of counseling practice.
