넓은 의미로 儒學을 공부한 儒生모두를 선비라고 보기는 어렵지만, 그 중에서도 삶의 師表가 되었던 율곡의 삶과 사상을 통해 본 논문의 목적인 율곡의 선비정신과 이를 통해 나타난 공직자상에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 儒者的지식인의 한사람이었 던 율곡은 해서는 出仕 관료로서, 退仕해서는 학자로서의 치열한 삶을 살았다. 오늘날 한국의 공직사회가 중심을 잃고 흔들리는 현실을 바라보며 의식 있는 이들 은 선비정신이 결핍되었다고 못내 아쉬워한다. 본 論文은 49세라는 전 생애를 도탄에 빠진 나라와 백성을 구하고자 힘썼던 율곡 의 선비정신과 이를 통한 공직자상을 살펴봄으로써, 지금의 공직자가 갖추어야 할 덕 목은 무엇인지 새롭게 진단해 보고자 하였다. 구체적으로는 율곡의 선비정신에 있어 서의 특징적인 것으로써, 聖人을 목표로 한 立志, 誠을 통한 修已, 그리고 熙晧之樂 의 등이다. 出世觀 율곡은 이러한 선비정신을 바탕으로 적극적인 를 통해 임금을 으로 만들 고자 하였으며, 깨끗한 朝廷, 엄정한 공직기강, 튼튼한 국방, 그리고 민생을 구제하는 데 사력을 다하였다. 따라서 율곡이 知識識勢의 안목을 통해 실현하고자 했던 실천적 공직자상에서 오늘의 공직자상을 찾아보고자 노력하였다.

Although we cannot consider all scholars who studied Confucianism as classical scholars, we would like to review the image of public servants shown and the spirit of classical scholar by Yulgok, which is the purpose of this study through his life and ideology. Yulgok, who was one of the intelligence based on Confucianism, lived a fierce life as an officer when he was in government service and a scholar when he retired. These days, people with consciousness regret the current status of public servants society in Korea as it is lack of spirit of classical scholar. This study tried to diagnose the virtues that the public servants of today should be equipped with, by reviewing the spirit of classical scholar by Yulgok who tried to save nation and people in distress in his short life of 49 years and the image of public servants through it. In details, this study reviewed setting on an aim in life to become a saint, discipline through reasoning, and vision of success of Huihojirak as special characteristics of spirit of classical scholar by Yulgok. Yulgok tried to make King a good and wise king through active sought of the way into the government service based on this spirit of classical scholar and did his best to make clean government, strictly disciplined public servants society, stable and strong national defense and to enhance public welfare. Accordingly, we tried to identify the ideal image of public servants today from the practical image of public servants that Yulgok wanted to realize through Jisisikse. Although Yulgok lived in the 16th century, his thought was very modern. Considering that he lived in a monarch in the 16th century, his yearning for innovation and cry for changes was astounding and solemn.
