이 연구는 한국어 흉내말의 관련어망 설계를 위한 기초 연구로, 한국어 상징어에서 관련어망을 형성하는 요소를 망라하여 체계화하는 것이 목적이다. 한국어는 매우 방대한 흉내말 자료를 갖고 있다. 그런데 이들은 독립적으로 존재하는 것이 아니라 ‘모음 교체’, ‘자음 교체’, ‘반복’, ‘형태 확장’ 등에 의해 서로 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있다. 그러므로 한국어 흉내말의 관련어를 체계화하는 일은 표면적으로 존재하는 한국어 흉내말의 총 수에서 한국어 흉내말을 구성하는 실질적인 기저형의 수를 확인하는 일이 된다. 역으로 한국어의 방대한 흉내말을 생성하는 실마리를 확인하는 기초 자료가 된다. 이 연구의 결과는 국어사전에서 보다 상세한 관련어 정보를 제공하는 자료를 제공하며, 궁극적으로 한국어 흉내말의 낱말망을 구축하는 기초가 된다.

As a preliminary work to develop related word nets of Korean symbolic words, this study aims to characterize all the elements which build up related word nets of Korean symbolic words, and to classify and categorize them. Korean is very peculiar, in a sense that it has more than 5,000 symbolic words. However, the words are not independent from each other, but very closely related through various productive morphological operations, such as vowel alternation, consonant alternation, reduplication and morphological extension. The achievements of this work can be summarized as follows; 1) comprehensive identification of underlying forms for Korean symbolic words, 2) classification and categorization of related word information embedded in Korean dictionaries, and 3) a groundwork for building a word-net of Korean symbolic words.
