The purpose of this study is to describe orthographic and phonological features of the five variants of ‘Sungkyuncikhaykwangik’ and to explore the origins and the sequential relationship among the variants. Materials for the study are four transcribed versions and one print version from Korean Church History Research Institute. The transcribed versions are classified by the state of division; A is divided into twenty volumes, B is divided into nineteen volumes, C is divided into fourteen volumes and D is divided into sixteen volumes. Structure of the variants suggests that those of A, B and D origin from the same resources as they are divided into equivalent standards; the Catholic Church liturgical cycle. While C shows different structures among other variants. Orthographic features represent that D employs the p-initial consonant clusters in parts exclusively; it does not separate the nominalization of the verbs. The variants use initial consonant-cluster to describe fortis consonants, but the B adopts germination-cluster representing fortis in print version. The variants generally shows strong tendency of liaison spelling, when verb has ‘ㄹ’ in the verbal stem. The version B and the print version, however, apply syllabication spelling which we can assume that both have mutual influence. Additionally when Sino-Korean ‘ㄹ’ comes at the word-initial or ends with syllable-final consonant, the ‘ㄹ’ does not change its form to ‘ㄴ’ in general. Phonological phenomenon, the majority of Sino-Korean is not palatalized its forms but maintains its own in the variants. Chinese characters, on the other hands, demonstrate slight difference among the volumes; they are palatalized especially in B. Yet the difference is that the religious terms of Chinese character do not use the palatalized forms in most of the variants. In regard of the change in the former-times “.” to ‘ㅏ’ in vocabularies, it shows slight difference in each version: D mainly employs the former-times ‘.’, while B generally reflects the altered ‘ㅏ’ in its use. Since the five variants record a festive day of the introduction of 1852, it is assumed that the transcription would not precede the year of its made. However based on the comparisons of the transcribed variants, it is suggested that the source materials would have temporal difference. Thus it is concluded that those five variants have “D → A → C → B → print version” sequential relationship
