국어과는 학습자들의 텍스트 능력을 길러 주는 것을 목적으로 하며, 따라서 국어교과서를 개발할 때에는 어떤 텍스트를 제재로 선택하여 수록할 것인가를 결정하는 것이 중요한 과업이 된다. 이런 점에서 이 연구는 국어교과서에 수록되는 제재 텍스트들은 어떤 요건을 갖추어야 하는가 하는 점에 대해 살펴보았다. 국어과 제재 텍스트는 우선 성취기준이나 학습목표를 달성하는 데 기여해야 한다. 이 조건은 목표 지향성이라고 하는데, 이에는 내용 요소 부합성과 내용 수준 적합성이 포함된다. 다음으로 제재 텍스트는 그 자체로 읽을 만한 가치를 지니고 있어야 한다는 가치 지향성을 지녀야 하는데, 이에는 학습자들의 성장을 자극하는 대자성과 공동체의 문화적 가치를 전승하는 문화성이 포함된다. 마지막으로 제재 텍스트들은 여러 가지 면에서 조화 지향성을 지녀야 하는데, 이에는 균형성과 계열성이 포함된다. 목표 지향성과 가치 지향성이 개별 텍스트 차원에서 요구되는 조건이라면, 조화 지향성은 상호 텍스트 차원에서 요구되는 조건이라는 점에서 차이가 있다. 국어교과서 개발자들은 이들 여러 요건들을 복합적으로 고려하면서 최선의 텍스트를 선택하여 제재로 수록한다. 따라서 이들 제재 텍스트의 요건들은 우선 국어교과서 편찬 과정에서 참조해야 하는 기준으로 활용 가능하며, 편찬된 교과서들을 선정할 때의 판단 기준으로도 활용할 수 있고, 나아가가정이나 학교에서 교과서 이외의 독서물을 선택할 때에도 활용할 수 있다.

The aim of korean subject is to bring up students` textual abilities. So the main task in compiling korean textbook is to select proper material texts. The purpose of this paper is to scrutinize requisites for material texts of korean subject. First of all, material texts of korean subject should contribute to accomplish instructional objects. They call it as inclination to object. Material texts should be suit to educational contents and developmental properties of students. Second, material texts of korean subject should have inclination to value which encourages mental growth and which transmits cultural heritages. Finally, material texts of korean subject should have inclination to harmony which contains balance and hierarchy. Unlike inclination to object and inclination to value which are requisites in dimension of individual text, inclination to harmony is requisite in dimension of inter-text. We can use these requisites in various times when we compile textbooks of korean subject, when we select one among them, and when we select various reading materials other than textbooks.
