이 연구의 목적은 다문화 사회에서 국어교육을 담당하는 교사의 다문화교육 역량을 밝히는 데 있다. 다문화 교육으로서의 국어교육은 다양한 문화적 배경을 가진 구성원들의 소통이 증대된 다문화 사회를 살아가는 학습자들의 ‘상호문화적 의사소통 능력’ 신장에 기여할 수 있어야 한다. 이를 위해 국어 교사는 ‘문화 조직자, 문화 매개자, 사회적 맥락의 조정자’로서 다문화 교육으로서의 국어교육을 효율적으로 수행할 수 있는 ‘다문화 교육 역량’을 갖추어야 한다. 국어 교사가 갖추어야 할 다문화 교육 역량은 이를 구성하는 ‘지식, 기능, 태도’의 요소를 통해 확인할 수 있다. 첫째, 다문화 교육으로서의 국어교육을 담당하는 국어 교사는 ‘국어 교과에 대한 지식, 다양한 언어문화에 대한 지식, 다양한 학습자들에 대한 지식’ 등의 ‘지식’을 갖추어야 한다. 둘째, 다문화 교육으로서의 국어교육을 담당하는 국어 교사는 ‘교육 내용의 재구성 능력, 다양한 교수-학습 방법의 활용 능력, 학습자들과의 의사소통 능력’ 등의 ‘기능’을 갖추어야 한다. 셋째, 다문화 교육으로서의 국어교육을 담당하는 국어 교사는 ‘다양한언어문화를 존중하는 태도, 다양한 학습자를 배려하는 태도, 다문화 교수-학습에 대한 책무감과 효능감’ 등의 ‘태도’를 갖추어야 한다.

This study aims to determine competence for multicultural education of teachers in charge of Korean language education in a multicultural society. As a multicultural education, Korean language education shall be able to make a contribution to increase ‘intercultural communicative competence’ of learners living in a multicultural society where communication of members with a variety of cultural backgrounds is increased. For the foregoing, Korean language teachers, as ‘cultural organizers, cultural mediator, orchestrator of social contexts`, shall be equipped with ‘competence for multicultural education’ capable of performing Korean language education as multicultural education more effectively. Competence for multicultural education that Korean language teachers shall be equipped with is able to be confirmed through the elements of ‘knowledge, skill and attitude’ that comprise the aforementioned competence. First, Korean language teachers in charge of Korean language education as a multicultural education shall be equipped with ‘knowledge’ such as ‘knowledge of Korean subject, knowledge of various language cultures, knowledge of a variety of learners’ etc. Second, Korean language teachers in charge of Korean language education as a multicultural education shall be equipped with ‘skill’ such as ‘ability to reconstitute contents of education, ability to apply a variety of teaching-learning methods, ability to communicate with learners’ etc. Third, Korean language teachers in charge of Korean language edu- cation as a multicultural education shall be equipped with ‘attitude’ such as ‘attitude that respects various language cultures, attitude to consider of various learners, feeling of duty and efficacy with respect to teachinglearning of multiple cultures’ etc.
