이 글은 단어의 어원을 밝힌 선행 연구 결과를 활용하여 국어 교육에 적용하는 방안을 모색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 학생들에게 친근하면서 학자들간에 이견이 비교적 적은 ‘앚/앛’ 계열 어휘 어원에 대한 선행 연구 결과를 교육적 목적에 따라 재분류하고 이를 토대로 어원 연구의 교육적활용 방안을 제시하였다. 국어 어원을 밝힌 연구 결과물은 다의어의 의미 확장은 물론, 어원핵이나 단어간의 의미 관계를 이용하여 의미 연결망을 활성화함으로써 어휘 교육에 적용할 수 있다. 이 밖에도 방언 교육과 외래어 교육에 활용할 수 있으며, 이와 관련된 태도 교육으로 확대 적용할 수 있다. 아울러 민간어원에 의해 잘못된 해석을 긍정적으로 활용할 수 있는 방법도 모색해 보았다. 어원 교육은 어휘에 대한 흥미를 불러일으키고, 학생의 어휘력 신장에도움을 줄 수 있다. 어원 교육에 대한 좀 더 구체적인 연구가 진행되어 어휘교육에 적용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

This thesis suggests some ideas on the educational applications of etymology by using the results of previous studies. Etymological findings is applicable to vocabulary education. They help in Polysemy learning by tracing lexical extended meaning. Vocabulary education using etymon is to give help to activate semantic network. In addition, it can be utilized in education of dialect and foreign language. Etymology education is try to generate excitement about the words. As a result, educational application of etymology It contributes to the formation of a positive attitude, as well as expand vocabulary abilities.
