현대 사회는 빠른 경제 성장으로 생활수준이 향상됨에 따라 삶의 질적 향상을 추구하고 있다. 또한, 환경문제에 대한 위기감이 높아지면서 웰빙이 사회전반에 화두가 되고 친환경적인 주생활을 가능하게 한다고 알려진 한국의 전통주택인 한옥이 재조명 되고 있다. 도시한옥은 과거 민가의 전통을 이어 자생적으로 발전한 도시주택유형으로 우리나라의 서구화와 근대화의 영향 속에서도 민중들의 전통적 주생활양식을 담아 온 주거유형이다. 그리고 급격히 확산 되어온 아파트의 획일성과 비교해 볼 때, 거주자들의 다양한 요구를 수용할 수 있는 미래 주거유형을 구상하는데 주요한 사고기반을 제공할 수 있다는 관점에서 미래의 주거 문화적 가치를 지니고 있다. 그러나 지금까지의 도시한옥 개발사례 및 연구동향을 살펴보면 물리적인 특성을 규명하는 연구에 치우쳐 건축적 보존만 강조한 것을 볼 수 있다. 따라서, 이러한 한옥의 건축적인 보존에만 치우친 것에서 발전시켜 한옥이 현대인의 바람직한 삶에 터전으로서 어떠한 잠재성을 지니고 있는지를 연구할 필요가 있다. 이러한 관점에서 한옥이 현대인들의 삶에 제공해줄 수 이 있는 제반 혜택이 무엇인지 특히, 건강과 웰빙이 중시되는 이 시대의 맥락에서 어떠한 가치를 지니고 있는지에 대한 것을 체계적으로 접근할 필요가 있으며 이러한 실증적인 결과들이 한옥의 설득력과 가치를 더 높여 줄 수 있을 것이다.

As health becomes a hot social issue for contemporary people who are living under great stress, health-friendly architectural features of the house is getting more explored. To enhance healthy function of houses, a series of multi-dimensional studies have been carried out. It`s range includes research on healthy features of traditional Korea house, healthy features shown. The purpose of the study is at systemizing the overall characteristics of health carried by the Modern Hanok in terms of the holistic health. In these research, health was dealt as a holistic concept which includes physical/physiological, psychological/emotional and social health dimension. It is expected that the property of healthiness of the Modern Hanok extracted in this study could be properly used at the time of the further development and remodeling of the Modern Hanok.
