새로운 제품 디자인 컨셉을 개발할 때 사용자의 다양한 컨텍스트에서 발생하는 니즈를 파악하기 위해 다양한 디자인 방법론들이 제시되어 있지만 다음과 같은 물음을 해결하기에는 한계가 있다. 먼저, 사용자의 사소한 행동이 컨셉 개발에 중요한 영향을 끼친다고 할 때, 사용자가 경험했던 상황에 직접 가보지 않고도 그 상황에서 발생하는 작지만 중요한 니즈들을 어떻게 파악할 수 있는 있는가에 대한 물음이다. 둘째, 기존의 방법론 중 이전에는 없었던 새로운 신기술 또는 신제품을 컨텍스트에 미리 적용시켜볼 수 있는 방법론은 없는가에 대한 물음과 컨텍스트에 적용시킨 후 이를 디자인에 적용하려고 할 때 그 컨텍스트 안에서 발생하는 행위나 인터렉션에 대한 사용자의 니즈를 미리 알 수는 없을까에 대한 3가지 물음이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 물음을 해결하기 위해 소셜 드라마의 반 구조화된 특징을 기반으로 한 Creative Product Drama(이하 CPD)라는 새로운 아이디어 발상 기법을 제안하고자 한다. 먼저, 디자인 시나리오 기법과 소셜 드라마의 특징을 분석하고 이를 기반으로 CPD의 정의, 주요 속성 및 실제로 CPD 기법을 활용한 사례 연구를 통해 CPD의 이점과 앞으로의 발전 방향성에 대해 논함으로써 실질적인 적용 가능한 아이디어 발상기법으로 구체화시키고자 한다.

Considering the idea that user`s insignificant actions have major impact on concept developments, one question would be “How can the little, yet important needs be understood without actually visiting the user`s experienced situation?” Secondly, “Are there any methodologies that can be helpful in applying newly developed technologies or products to user`s context before the designing stage?” And if that`s possible, “Can user`s needs be found from the actions and interactions occurring inside the context before applying it to its` designs?” would be the final question. In this study, a new ideation method called Creative Product Drama (CPD) based on unstructured characteristics of a Social Drama is being proposed to resolve these questions. First, limitations of widely used Scenario Method and the characteristics of Social Drama are analyzed to understand the needs from various contexts. And the definition, key attributes, and methods of CPD are introduced based on this analysis. Then, by discussing advantages and directions for developments of CPD found from case studies, CPD will be concretized as an ideation method which can be applied to the actual design.
