본 연구에서는 고령자들을 위한 노인의 부엌디자인을 개선하기 위한 기초자료를 얻기 위해, 부엌에서 일어나는 다양한 행동과 노인의 부엌개선 욕구 특성을 조사하였다. 연구방법은 노인의 부엌사용과 개선에 대하여 문헌조사하고, 이를 바탕으로 설문조사를 진행하였다. 만65세 이상 노인을 설문조사 대상으로 실시하였으며, 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 고령자를 위한 부엌 개선방안의 필요성에 대해 조사 대상 연령층에서 대부분 필요하다는 결과가 나왔다. 그 결과 첫째, 부엌공간의 동선의 개선에 대한 요구도가 나타났다. 둘째, 조사대상자의 특성에 따른 부엌가구에 대하여 분석한 결과 부엌가구 개선 중 작업대, 하부장의 개선도가 가장 많았고 부엌가구 수납에서는 개선의 차이를 보였다. 셋째, 조사대상자의 신체적 차이와 관련된 가전기기나 설비시설에 대한 선호도, 이용도, 개선도에 대한 의견의 차이를 있었으나 관심도는 높아 보였다. 넷째, 조사대상자의 특성에 따라 요구 되는 가열기기에 안전성과 개선의 필요성을 느꼈으며. 가전제품에 대한 이용도는 조사대상자의 개인 차이로 두 부류로 나눌 수 있다.

The purpose of the study was to examine diverse behaviors of the aged at a kitchen and their desire for kitchen improvement as a basic survey to improve kitchen design for the aged. The study carried out a literary survey of kitchen use and improvement and conducted a survey with the aged of more than 65 years old. The results of the study were as follows. Most of them answered that it was necessary to improve a kitchen for the aged. First, they answered that it was necessary to improve a moving line of a kitchen space. Second, with regard to kitchen furniture followed by features of the subject, most of them answered that it was necessary to improve a worktable and a sink out of kitchen furniture. They had differences in opinions about improvement in storage of kitchen furniture. Third, they had differences in opinions about preference, availability and improvement of home appliance or facilities related to their physical difference, but took a high interest in them. Fourth, they answered that it was necessary to improve heating devices for their safety according to their features. Availability of home appliances was divided into two groups according to their individual differences.
