본고의 목적은 초등학교 3, 4학년의 화법 양상을 교육과정과 교과서를 중심으로 살펴보는 데 있다. 이를 위해 화법 양상을 ‘참여자, 상황, 담화 내용’으로 나누어 분석하였다. 참여자 빈도 측면에서 보면 대화 상대자로 친구, 어머니, 선생님 순으로 나타났다. 전체적으로 보면 가족의 비중이 높다. 대화 상대자로서의 이웃의 비중은 미미하다. 교과서에 제시된 상황은 학습 상황을 제외하면 공식적인 듣기·말하기 상황은 회의와 안내 방송이 거의 유일하며, 대화가 일어나고 있는 장소는 교실(학교)과 집뿐이다. 화법의 목적과 관련지어 보더라도 빈약하기는 마찬가지여서, 교실에서는 주로발표 중심의 정보 전달이 주된 목적이 되고, 일상생활에서는 인사, 축하, 사과 등의 친교가 주된 목적이 된다. 또 하나 짚고 넘어가야 할 것은 화법의 상황 제시가 자연스럽지 못한 활동들이 다수 있다는 점이다. 담화 내용 면에서 보면, 친구들과의 대화 대부분은 학습 상황과 관련되어 있으며, 특별할 것 없는 일상적인 대화가 거의 전부이다. 하지만 긴 호흡으로 대화하는 예는 드물고, 최소 인접쌍으로 구성된 대화가 대부분이다. 한편 교과서에 나오는 가족들의 대화 내용은 비현실적이고 학생들을 가족으로부터 소외시킬 가능성이 높다. 교과서의 선생님들은 학생들과 풍부한 대화를 나누고 있지 않으며, 과제 안내하기와 심부름 시키기가 전부 다이다.

This paper studied speech aspects of third-fourth grade elementary student focusing on curriculum and textbooks. For this, we analysed speech aspects divided into participant, situation, discourse contents. From participant, conversation partners of elementary student are friends, mother, teacher. Overall, the family is of great importance. The neighbors as conversation partners are insignificant. The public situations presented by textbooks are almost class conference or announcement except teaching and learning situation. The places of conversation are classroom(school) and home. The purpose of speech acts is also scanty. And textbooks had a lot of unnatural activities in situation. From discourse contents, most conversations with friends related teaching and learning situation, and are not special but ordinary. The contents of family`s conversations are unrealistic. And they alienated students from their family. Teachers in textbook did not converse with students except task-guiding and errands.
