현대인들의 생활방식과 사고가 분리된 형태에서 통합되고 융합된 형태로 변화하고 있다. 사람들이 사용하는 기기들의 기능들을 통합시켜 하나의 융합된 기기들올 출현시킴으로써 창조적인 물건들을 만들어 내고 있다. 이러한 현상과 동시에 특정 기능을 담당하는 공간들의 통합도 이루어 지고 있다. 여러 기능들이 통합된 공간은 새로운 공간을 보여준다. 이러한 공간의 기능성 통합을 위한 빙법으로 첫째, 물리적 공간을 이루고 있는 분리된 공간의 규모를 통합하는 것과 둘째, 공간 안에서 일어나고 있는 분리된 현상들을 통합하는 것을 주된 통합의 방법으로 보고 이를 구성하는 요소들을 모색한다. 분리된 규모를 세가지로 구성하여 규모툴 규정짓고 이 중에서 가장 작은 규모를 본 연구의 통합대상으로 규정한다. 공간 안에서 일어나는 현상들은 사람들이 살아가는데 필요한 일반적인 주거기능과 상업기능으로 한정하였으며 이를 구성하여 공간 안에서 일어나는 현상들을 정리한다. 주거기능과 상업기능의 통합의 과정을 제안하며 이들 방법의 실제 구현을 위해서 필요한 해결책과 방안을 모색한다.

It has changed the lifestyle and consciousness of the prsent generation. They make creative and brand-new products that are convergence things with integrating multi functions. Many separated and isolated spaces that can carry just one function have to be changed to be integrated and multi functional. Functional integrated space can make a creative and unique place. To make integrated space, First, separated scale of physical structure should be integrated. Second, separated phenomena in specific place should be integrated. This study searches the elements of functional integration especially on residential and commercial functions and is focused to the process of their functional integration. It also searches filtering elements that can make decisions with integrating or not. It helps that the knowledge of the integrating process, the components of housing, and the filtering decision in a part of integrating process make a real integrated space. This study also explores the problems and solution about this integrating process.
