디지털 테크놀로지에 힘입은 뉴미디어 시대, 영상시대에 들어서면서 지금까지 인식하지 못했던 구술언어와 문자언어의 차이점을 인식하기 시작하였고 구술언어와 쓰기에 의해 깊이 영향을 받고있는 문자언어와의 사이에 지식을 다루는 방법과 그것을 말로 표현하는 방법상에 어떤 기본적인 차이가 있다는 사실이 발견되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 이전에 알지 못했던 언어의 구술성을 이해하고 구술성과 문자성의 차이를 통해 최근의 영상언어에 북아있는 인간 본래의 구술성을 통해 영상언어가 더욱 효과적으로 커뮤니케이선한다는 것을 알아보는 것이다. 구술적 성격을 가진 영상 언어는 인간의 감성과 생활세계와 밀착된 직접적인 소구 방식을 취함으로써 연상작용과 같은 자연스러운 의식의 흐름과 감성적 접근으로 그 정신이 바로 전달되어 다양하고 새로운 형식으로 커뮤니케이션한다는 것이다. 즉, 분절된 언어로 인간의 의식을 비추는 구술성의 성격을 가진 영상언어가 더욱 효과적으로 인간에게 상호 교감하는 커뮤니케이션에 공헌하고 있는 것이라고 할 수 있다.
