본 연구의 목적은 디자인에 있어서 전통 문양의 개념 및 시각적인 활용 가능성을 정리하여 그 가치를 새롭게 조명하는 데 있다. 더불어 전통 문양을 활용하여 웹에서 사용될 수 있는 기초 조형 요소를 개발하고, 그 활용 사례를 통해 국제화, 개방화 시대에 대응할 수 있는 독창성을 높이는 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 본 논문은 기존 웹사이트에 활용된 전통 문양 사례를 통해 전통 문화의 소재 범위와 그 가치를 넓히고자 했다. 연구 결과 웹과 전통 문양의 표현 방식이 공통점을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 웹에서 정체성과 독창성을 가질 수 있는 표현 소재로서의 전통 문양 활용을 제안할 수 있었다. 하지만 전통 문양을 가지고 단순히 시각적 심미안만을 추구해서는 안 된다. 다각적인 연구를 근간으로 문양의 상징적인 의미가 내포된 조형 요소를 개발하고 개발 과정을 통해 정체성이 확립되도록 노력하는 것이 주요한 관건이라 판단된다.

This study is willing to light the new value of the traditional pattern through summarizing of its meaning on design and the possibility of the visual applications. Moreover, we would like to develop basic components of the shapes using traditional patterns in order to apply to the web and through these cases to present the way that promotes the originality coping with an age of globalization. For this, we collected cases of the applications of traditional patterns that were already used in web sites in the preceding study to expand the range of the traditional culture and its value. As the result, we found that there are common features between the expressions of the web and traditional patterns. According to this, this study was able to propose the application of traditional patterns with the expressive materials that have the originality and the identity in the web. However, it is not desirable only to chase the aesthetic appreciation using traditional patterns. In the basis of the diversified study it is important to develop the components of the shapes involved the symbolical meaning of the patterns and to establish of the identity through this process of evelopment.
