21 세기는 모든 매체에 누구나 쉽게 접근 가능하고, 열려 있는 시대이다. 많은 매체의 홍수 속에서 아직도 시각 정보 언어의 중요성이 제대로 된 평가를 받지 못하고 있는 교육 매체인 교과서 일러스트레이션 분석을 통해 교육이 본래의 기능과 역할을 할 수 있는 하나의 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 교과서 일러스트레이션은 학습자에게 언어적 설명의 보조적 역할, 학습 내용을 강조·변형·과장하고자 할 때 시간의 제약 극복, 학습의 동기와 흥미 유발 및 학습 내용 확인, 새로운 개념의 학습에 자극, 함축적 표현으로 학습내용을 개념화하는데 기여하며, 학습자의 지적·정서적인 성장의 권형적인 발전을 가져오는 데 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있다. 따라서 교과서 일러스트레이션에 대한 접근도 ‘효율적인 정보전달 및 반응을 위해 사용자 중심으로 정보를 재구성하는 것’으로 정의된 정보디자인 개념의 접근을 통해서 이루어져야 하며 앞으로 보다 많은 연구가 필요하다고 하겠다.

Every media is easily acceptable and open to anyone in 21 century. It is true that the importance of visual information language is not estimated as much as its real value in era of information flood. The object of this study is to present a method to fulfill the original purpose and role of education by analyzing textbook illustrations, The major function of the textbook illustration is to support linguistic explanation and to put emphasis, transformation, exaggeration in studying contents. Moreover it has contributed to overcoming time limit, raising learning motivation, and experiencing the fun of studying. All these things contribute to conception of learning and to balanced development between intellectual and emotional growth. Accordingly the approach of textbook illustration must be performed through the concept of information design that is reconstructed information with priority given to user in order to efficient information deliver and effect. From now on much more study about this field must be specialized.
