컴퓨터외의 대화 수단을 보다 인간과 가깝게 하기 위해서는 음성인식 (ASR: Automatic Speech Recognition)OI 필요하게 되었으며 이러한 음성인식은 매우 다양한 응용분야를 가지며 음성과학과 컴퓨터 기술의 발전에 의해 크게 발전되어오고 있다. 최근에는 이동전화 사용의 급격한 증가와 단말기를 이용한 다양한 서비스를 제공 받고자 함에 따라 전화망 환경에서 음성인식 기술의 적용이 더욱 중요시 되고 있다. 이러한 인식에서 출발하여 본 연구는 국가간의 문화의 차이를 고려한 VUI 디자인에 있어서 전화 음성인식 시스템의 ASR 프롬프트(prompt)를 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 우선 국가간 문화의 비교를 위해서 Hofstede (1991)와 E.T. Hall 의 문화분류 틀을 준거로 하였다. Hofstede 는 문화를 비교함에 있어서 국가문화의 차이를 개인주의/집합주의, 불확실성 회피/수용, 권력거리 평등/불평등, 남성성/여성성 문화의 4 가지 개덤을 사용하여 구분 함으로서 문화비교의 단일적이며 일차원적인 문제를 일정부분 해소하였으며. E.T. Hall 은 고맥락/ 저맥락 (High-context/ Low-context), 다원형/ 단일형 (Polychronici Monochronic)의 개념으로 문화 차이를 설명하고 있다. 이 근거를 기초로 본 논문에서는 한국에 적합한 프롬프트를 재 발견, 제안해보고자 한다.

ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) has become more necessary in order to communicate with computer closely. Therefore, speech recognition technology has been developed by advanced computer technologies and speech science in various application fields. Recently, it has become more important to apply the speech recognition technology to telephony industry because of rapid growth of usage of mobile phone, as long as we need to be provided with diverse services using mobile phone. On the authority of these facts, this study is concentrated on ASR system prompt in VUI design for Korean based on cultural differences. The theories used on this study for the comparison of cultural differences are from Geert Hostede and E. T. Hall. Hofstede pointed out that there are mainly 4 dimensions which can cover basic issues: individualism/collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, power distance, masculinity/feminity. Edward. T. Hall said 2 dimensions: Highcontext/Low-context, polychromic/monochromic. In this study, I would suggest and find the prompt adapted to Korean based on those theories.
