국내에서는 여성친화도시 조성 사업을 통해 도시의 여성친화도를 높이기 위한 노력을 시도하고 있으나, 지역의 객관적인 여성친화수준에 대해 고려하지 않은 채 단순히 국가 시책의 일종으로 수립되고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 지역의 여성친화도를 객관적으로 평가하기 위한 평가지표를 개발하고, 16개 시·도의 여성친화도를 평가하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 정치 및 의사결정, 경제 및 고용, 보건 및 복지, 안전, 가족 및 문화에 대한 세부지표를 선정하였고, 평가 결과 전북, 서울, 광주, 부산의 순으로 여성친화도가 높게 나타났다. 또한 실증적인 분석을 통하여 여성친화도를 향상시키는 요인에 대해 고찰하였다. 연구 결과를 중심으로 향후 성공적인 여성친화도시를 조성하기 위한 연구의 시사점과 정책적 제언을 논의하였다.

Recently, there is a growing interest over issues such as providing women with more opportunities and creating an women-friendly environment in the city. Korea joined the effort to improve women-friendliness of cities with women-friendly city projects. But they are being planned as a part of national policy without considering specific conditions of each region. This study develops evaluation indicators for an objective assessment on regional women-friendliness and conducts evaluation on 16 cities and provinces. Specific indicators are determined in relation to politics and decision making, economy and employment, health and welfare, safety, and family and culture. Empirical analysis is conduced on them to find out factors improving women-friendliness. Based on the result, suggestions and political proposals are discussed to create a womenfriendly city.
