영상 매체를 활용한 글쓰기는 학생들이 쉽게 접하는 현실 세계의 다양한 시각화된 이미지를 좀 더 다각도에서 심도 있게 창의적으로 분석하는 능력을 향상시키는 데 효과적일 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 여러 능률과 효과를 전제하면서도 실제 대학 글쓰기 수업에서 이루어지는 영상 매체를 활용한 글쓰기 수업이 영상 매체의 특수성을 제대로 반영하지 못한 채진행되고 있는 게 현실이다. 본고는 이러한 점에 착안하여 영화를 사례로 들어 영상 이미지를 이해하고 분석하여 비평문을 작성하는 전략을 논의해 보고자 한다. 일반적으로 영화 비평문 작성은 주로 영화 ‘서사’ 중심으로 이루어져 줄거리의 정리·요약 수준에 머물러 있는 경우가 대부분이다. 이는 영화의 시각화된 이미지를 충분히 효과적으로 해석하지 못하는 한계를 보인다. 영화의 시각 이미지를 구성하는 다양한 영화적 기법을 이해하고 나아가 그것에 각인되어 이는 문화와 이데올로기의 내포된 의미를 심도 있게 분석하는 방법을 터득할 때 영화 비평문을 좀 더 효과적이고 창의적으로 작성할 수 있을 것이다. 구체적으로 영화의 장면을 구성하는 인물들의 대화와 행동 및 음악, 색채 등에 초점을 맞춰 그것을 통해 영화의 주제와 의미를 창의적으로 분석해내는 방법론을 제시하고자 한다.
